cinton and obama had a conflict in pennsylvania
Obama had critisms that were direct and clintons were unmistakable. clinton says about obama that instead of attacking the problem he should try talking about attacking the solution, i think that everyone is narrowing down to those two for president , so the media is looking for every little thing to over dramatise and instagate . i think our meadia needs to just be honest and they should never stand one sided , however every media cast views only what they belive .
pope visits the U.S
The president welcome the pope to the u.s today ! the pope does not visit the us alot however i hope that when the pope is here he helps the catholic faith! it has not been very strong in a while. the pope should come to the U.s mor often to teach the americans about religon and how it ties inton poltics .
Mccain is ahead of obama
the new polls say that mccain is ahead of obama. so now he is tied with the democratic canindates. i think mccain my win. but the election is always unexpected. it is a mystery to know who will will the 2008 elections.

STOP! Read this before posting
A huge percentage of the posts and comments people are submitting are not valid. There are directions on this and you are required to follow them to get any credit.
The following applies to both posts and comments:
1. They have to relate to the class you are in.
2. They have to be at least two sentences long.
3. They have to give your opinion on the issue.
4. They have to have your full name typed in them.
At this point NONE of the older posts/comments that violate these rules get any credit and you CANNOT go back and fix them. You have to do all new posts/comments to get credit. And, no, you cannot have an extension. And, no, I will not tell you before class tomorrow how many you got credit for. If they violated any of the above four rules, they don't count. Period. Add up the total number you did and subtract one for each post/comment that violates these rules. Rules, by the way, that have been in place since the beginning of the semester.

Making children memorize one grade at a time.
The standards public schools use to teach reading, math and other subjects would become tougher, more detailed and more relevant at every grade level under a bill House Speaker Marco Rubio said Wednesday is one of the important pieces of education legislation in Florida's history. Is it the information that is the problem for our education system or the way the system works in the first place?
Another illegal one?
A hallucinogenic herb called Salvia divinorum could be put in the same class of controlled substances as marijuana and LSD. That's after a proposal on the matter was approved by the House. Possessing the herb would become a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.
Taxes...boo
A proposal to reduce property taxes in exchange for hiking the state sales tax has split conservative Republicans, who are arguing whether the measure makes taxes more equitable or is a bait and switch that will end up costing Floridians more. What do you think?
Fat America
Florida elementary school students would be required to have 30 minutes of continuous exercise daily, and middle schools would get physical education, too, under a bill up for debate in the state's Senate. Do you think this will decrease the obesity rate in children?

Educating voters
I think more people should be educated on researching whats going to be on their city's ballot before they go to vote. They pat themselves on the back because they voted, but if a person is uneducated on their decision, I would just prefer them not to vote at all. Maybe our city governments and congress would actually start improving if that ever happened.

Let the states have a little bit more power
Illegal immigration is a big problem in Florida, but our national government is having a hard time dealing with how to resolve it. I believe that illegal immigration control should be handed down to the states, because they are the only ones who know how to asses this problem in their individual state. Millions of dollars are being lost by taxpayers in these states so that illegal immigrants can be put on welfare and public housing. Congress is having a hard time deciding how to put tighter restrictions and punishment on these immigrants because they want to make everyone happy. You can't deal with this situation that way. If it was left up to the state, we would get to skip this middle man.

McCain too old?
Democratic Rep. John Murtha, who is 75 years old said that John McCain is to old to be president. Murtha is 4 years senior to McCain, and said that "running the country is no old mans job." Would John McCain's age affect his performance as leader?

So everyone, I need to be enlightened on the Homeland Security. Does it cover the mexican border? And doesn't it seem like it is a waste of money.
Whats wrong with childrens parents in the world
Nojud Mohammed Ali is an 8 year old girl living in Yemen. Her parents had her marry a 28 year old man and move in with him. This seems a little crazy to me, and it should to most of you. Her unemployed father claimed he "feared that she would be kidnapped." This isn't uncommon in Yemen, the country plans to set a standard age of 18 as the minimum to marry.
HIgher Chicken Prices
So Pilgrim's Pride poultry company just got caught for employing illegal immigrants. I don't have a problem with the illegals working. The government should let businesses hire illegal workers, but deduct taxes out of their pay. If were going to let them work in America, the least we can do is let them contribute to the economy.
Legalize It!
I think that marijuana should be legalized. If we compare marijuana to alcohol you will see that it is less harmful. For one thing you can't overdose on marijuana like you can on alcohol. I mean how many DUI related deaths are due to people driving around high? If alcohol is legal then weed should be legal too. Don't get me wrong I love to drink alcohol but I know the day after I drink an entire 5th of Jim Beam i will feel way worse then the day after I smoked four blunts of the Koosh.
What a Miracle!
A Minnesota teenager by the name of April Mosier, age 14 manage to survive a plan crash that took place in the central African Nation. The teenager spoke Swahilli which could be the reason why she was saved. She told a man to tear a hole in the side of the plane or they would all die. By the grace of God her parents and her baby brother made it out safely. Now the question lingers in their head..."what does God have for them to do next"? Is this a miracle or what?
Muslim Group Declines to meet with the Pope
Although the Pope is against the wars in the muslim world the U.S. Muslim group declines to meet with the Pope. Do you decline or accept a national figure of the world; I think not this is a show of no change in the world as we no it today. We all need to pray for peace in the middle east and have faith the god will hear our prayers. why do you think the us muslim groups decline to meet with the pope?
Schools And the Use of Prayer
I think that praying should be used in the school system. Maybe it would hurt since we have shooting in schools everyday. After the columbin shootings do you think that it's the childern or the parents faults for the shootings that have happen in the past and present; I think No It's the governments fault for not allowing prayer in the schools the whole world needs god and I hopes he's with us in these tuff times.
Pope benedict Starts U.S. Tour
The supreme court rejected a petition; by a 7-2 vote. Some Kentucky death row inmates who argued the current lethal injection method violated the constitutional ban on cruel and unusual punishment by inflicting needless pain and suffering. I think that this brings about a problem that we should resolve quickly. I think that there shouldn't be a death penalty, the offender should just live the rest of there days out in prison the death penalty is to easy and no one deserves to die. All this was voted upon eventhough the pope entered the country and he strickly opposes it. do you agree or disagree that there is a problem with our death row system.
The Economy
Because of America's struggling economy it seems like the whole world is at mass chaos. I'm from Haiti, where the political situation has never been "perfect," and things are getting worst there. There are several factors why Haiti is at it's slump at this moment but one of them is that America's economy is struggling so much that those who are in here that provided for those back in Haiti cannot afford to do as much as they did. I'm sure that other foreigners who sends funds back home are expierencing the same effect.

Political Parties
I think the political party system needs to be done away with. I think political parties encourage narrow mindedness when it comes to voting. For many people even if they agree with a candidate on most issues if they are of a different political party people are less likely to vote for them anyway. Also it limits you choices for primary voting in states with closed primaries like Florida. I want to be able to vote for who would make the best president in my opinion regardless of whether they are a democrat or republican or something else.

The high prices of gas seems to have a monopoly effect on everything. Walking into the grocery store really brought that to light to me. Milk, bread and other items that were the first things i went for to get while i was at the store now is being debated by me on whether or not if it's necessary because they've gotten a little more expensive. I shouldn't have to compromise buying milk because of hight prices of gas. I wonder, that when and if prices starts to drop will everything start gradually becoming cheaper or will the say the same price?

To me, the current election, the war in Iraq, and most recently a 24 hour coverage of Brittany Spears has Americans side track from a very important issue: Bin Laden. This man was in charge for the deaths of thousands of our fellow americans and he's seemed to just be forgotten. Florida Marriage Protection Amendment
A lot of people are trying to petition that the Florida Marriage Protection Amendment be put on the November 4, 2008 ballot. This amendment proposes that it should be made legal that marriage may only take place between a man and a woman, and no other exceptions. I do not like this proposed amendment. I believe that it is a ignorant amendment, and I hope that it doesn't get put on our ballot. Our nation is changing, and I think people should be more tolerant of the "new". Their are thousands of homosexuals in our country, especially in Florida, and they should have just as much a right to get married, and enjoy the benefits of marriage, as a straight couple should be allowed to. I just don't see how people can claim that gay marriage is immoral.

With War Comes Spending…With What?
America has a huge chunk of money that they owe (several trillion dollars) to other countries. With the rumors of threats and suspicions of war with other countries, I highly doubt that America would have time for a major world war. I believe if and when we go to a major war with a major country, it’s a war that we better win. Reason being is because eventually we’ll hopefully use the goods of the country to payback some of the debts. Not only that, war costs money, even if we do win we'll still have find a way to pay all that money we owe.

Why Have Delegates?
Till this day I still don’t understand I we have delegates. When I was told that it’s the vote of the people that count I, honestly believe that my vote would actually go towards voting for a president. What I learned this semester is that delegates are the ones who vote for president. Why vote if that’s the case? I still don’t understand why that’s not the case. I honestly do believe that, if it were the people who voted, then, presidential outcomes would have been a bit different.
Money, Money, Money
The 2008 presidential campaign has alreadly cost millions and millions of dollars. I think it is ridiculus for candidates to spin so much money when that money could be used for better purposes. Think about if all the money that private corporations or interest groups get donated to family with children without healthcare or some other worthy cause. What a difference it could make. I think the candidates should have a set amount of money and then I comes down more to who spends their wisely. What do you think?

Why Raise Minimum Wage
I hear about both Obama and Hillary planning to raise minimum wage. I don’t believe it’s necessary. I realize (from my eyes), when minimum wage was raised from five dollars to six dollars and something change, prices of goods also went up. So now I wonder. If minimum wage is increased once again, will prices on goods increase as well? I would think so. When and if minimum wage is increased, boss (company owners) will have to spend more money on worker’s checks, this would result towards losing money. One way to prevent in losing money would be to increase the prices on consuming goods.
Nothing Better Than a Black President
This may sound very bias, but what can be better than a black president. Some people may think that having a black president may be one of the biggest mistakes for America. I on the other disagree. Reason I say this is because when many people (Europeans), have doubted us African Americans when being the first to do something. When you look at the sports world, people thought that we would mess up, but look at the sports world today. I’m just saying, I think that once and if Obama is president, there will be a lot of pressure, but he’ll be able to handle, and I think he’ll be successful at being president.

Prison Population in Florida
As of October 2002, there were 74,873 in the Florida prison system. The month before there were 74,768, and the month before that there was 74,249. Jeb Bush stated that crime in Florida is going down since these past 5 years. If you ask me, how can crime be going down if the prison population keeps on going up. Each month the prison population kept on getting higher and higher. We all know that prisons in Florida hold down a lot of inmates that could be on parole or house arrest. This in turn could save us tax payers a lot of money in the long run. With Florida housing the most inmates of all states in the U.S., its only continuing to make a bad name for our state.

Supply & Demand of crude oil
Crude Oil prices are currently on the rise in the U.S. Some people believe that it may be because of the value of the U.S. dollar, others seem to believe that is because of the Supply and Demand of the product.
I believe that with the lack of the resource, Supply is going down. And while supply is going down, Demand is going up.
Biology Professor Hinton states, " If crude oil demands continue at this rate, by the year 2018, all resources will be depleted and people of the U.S. will be dependant on another form of fuel to power our vehicles."
The thought of gasoline being absolete is somewhat frightening. And to think that we will be running on solar , ethanol, and electricty powered vehicles in the near future is exciting.

Gas does not seem to be lowering
Everday gas pricing and rising more and more each day and is affecting many people hard. Some people are no longer able to afford gas prices and now have to find other ways to conserve money to find transportation. Many people have tried to implement these " no gas days" which ultimately do not work because someone is still going to be gas daily. Also major companies such as Airlines and Bus transportation need gas on a daily basis to transport people to where they need to go. But are they going to come down anytime soon? Many have reported that they are only going to get higher and may not come down for a while or until they find a new way that might solve the gas solution.

Obama said that he would like to put more emphasis on math and science in schools. I'm not really sure how he is going to do that. All the basic sciences are pretty much mandatory classes even here in Florida where we have a horrible education system.
The fact is, if you want more people that are good at science and math you will have to try to teach them that those kinds of number crunching jobs are fun. People in school usually are not in school to have fun, they are in school to get a piece of paper that says they know what they are doing so that an employer will pay them more money (or learn about the subject and then get a piece of paper). If the job is boring, or tedious, most people will try to steer clear of that job because they don't want to be looking threw a micro scope or at a bored full of equations for the rest of their life.

banning video games?
I think that if a person wants to play a video game where they go kill people, thats fine. I think it's a good stress reliever. And I think that the government has no place sticking its nose into the business of the gaming industry. Yes, many video games are violent, and that is because violence sells. If little ponies with rainbow sold to all ages then people would be buying, watching, and playing happy little pony games. Should a person understand that the video game is not reality? Of course they should. Just like a person should understand that everything they see on T.V. isn't real.

I don't think that the government should ban the owning or carrying of fire arms. People that want to hurt other people with guns will hurt other people with guns. People who don't, won't. Why punish fine citizens for the acts of criminals. I realize that the second amendment may not be interpreted to mean literally guns, but that doesn't mean that the government should take them away.

to baby or not to baby
I think that abortion should be left up to the individual, not a federal court. In my opinion, not even the state should have a say in the matter. The state is not having a child, and neither is the federal government. There are a total of three people that should be involved in the process of determining whether or not to have an abortion: the mother, the father, and the doctor.

Poverty
There is plenty of food in the world for everyone, but because they are in sever poverty they lack the money to buy enough food for their children and themselves. Every three and a half seconds, most of the time, one child dies everyday of hunger-related causes, which is about 25,000 people that die everyday, according to the United Nations. These poor children and their parents become weaker and even sicker until death. I think that this is very sad, but I am happy to see that there are programs that can help the families in need of care. There are programs called “food for work” where there are adults are paid with food to build schools, dig wells, make roads, and so on. Now, for the children, there are programs called “food for education” where there are children that are provided with food when they attend school. With this program the children’s education will help them get away from hunger and global poverty. I think that these programs will make a big different in poverty and hopefully these programs will continue but much is needed for the children in need. Is the government really trying to help those that are in need of their help, like those in poverty?

Hillary strongly believes that in order for us to know who is in our country we should secure our borders. She supports a set up of new technology that can help stop the flow of undocumented immigrants into the country. I think that in a way this would be a good idea, mainly because there are a lot of bad people that want to do a lot of bad things. However, there are some good people who are looking for a new start or people who want to find there long lost families members. Gay rights?
I recently read an article in TIME magazine about the gay culture in Beijing, China. Some have described Beijing’s attitude towards the gay community as a triple no policy: no approval, no disapproval, no promotion. They still don’t have as much freedom as say a city like San Francisco but the gay community in China is still free to live their lives. How do you feel about gay rights? I think that homosexuals should have the same rights as heterosexuals. I am glad that society is becoming more accepting toward the gay community.

John McCain said he would like to implement a new gun control policy. Where people have guns and people that use them to break the law should be punished but law abiding citizens should not. Same sex marriages
Should same sex marriages be legal? Many people are against same sex marriages, and I kind of just wanted to hear some views on this issue. In my beliefs, who I am to stop someone from being happy? I think that everyone should just do what makes them happy, even if that means marrying the same sex.
I remember when I didn't think this way, which actually wasn't too long ago. My mom's friends sister has a partner of the same sex and I remember listening to my mom and her friend talking about her sister and her partner and how happy the two of them are.
Recently, they both were pregnant and had kids, and at first I just thought that it was going to be so hard for the kids as they grew up, and hard for the couple to explain things to their children. Since, I was around the couple, I realize that my opinion before was rude and selfish. They're just two people doing what makes them happy.

How do you feel about abortion being covered under many insurance companies? In Washington abortion is even covered by Medicaid. Abortion has come a long way since Roe v. Wade. Now the U.S. is being criticized for the way that detainees are being held in custody at the Bagram military base. I don't see what the big deal is because prisoners aren't being treated right in America. The U.S. has more than enough reasons why this situation should be taken seriously, for example 9-11. Until the people who are being detained are proven not guilty they should be treated like they have done something.

The Kite Runner - A Must Read!
Khaled Hosseini has written a phenomenal novel that introduces readers to the culture and politics of Afghanistan both past and present. He tells of the peaceful times prior to the Russian takeover and moves through the unrest during their occupation to the terror brought on by the Taliban.
Through all of this, Hosseini reveals to readers a relationship between best friends from different classes who have their own personal problems separate from those of the government. It's a story that shows just how mean kids can be and how the maturation process causes some to change and some not.
This book also shows the promise of freedom to be who you want to be in America versus the oppression that others face in "lesser" countries. It should make those of us who do live in the good 'ole USA proud to be free from the terror, oppression, and the lack of personal rights that the folks living under the type of conditions that political unrest bring, face.
Everyone should check this out. You won't put it down.

Immigration
I've read both McCain and Obama's plan for immigration and border control, and in my opinion Obama states more of a solid plan as far as cracking down on employers to make sure they are hiring legal immigrants. McCain basically just states that he plans on keeping a tighter security on the borders. I think that Obama has better strategies on keeping our borders safe.

To be hungry and not have any food is one of the worse feelings in the world.

Raising the driving age in Florida
I believe the state of Florida should raise its driving age from 16 years of age to 18. I think a lot of kids are too irresponsible to be let behind the wheel of a car at 16 because their at a age where they think they are invincible, and they are more willing to take unsafe risks. I know more teenagers under the age of 18 who have died in a car accident from using a cellphone, drinking alcohol, and generally driving unsafely compared to adults in my community. Also, with the prices of gas going up, the state could benefit from cutting down on the waste of gas teenagers contribute to our state because they like to ride around after school, and on the weekends looking for something to do. Raising the driving age might also help kids rearrange their school priorities if they can't drive until after they graduate or when they become a senior in high school. In my experience, I just don't believe learning how to drive a car at 15 with an adult for a year is enough time for teens to truly realize that driving is a privilege, not a right.

Affects of Budget Cuts
There are a lot of people that are concerned with how the budget cuts would affect their children. There are certain things that many people feel will greatly be affected by this, such as, programs for gifted students, foreign language offerings, sports, and student activities. There are even some people that were searching for different ways the Board of Education could leave the classroom experience intact and still make cuts. I think that it would really hurt a lot of children to loose any of the programs or activities that they now have because of the budget cut. This is because there are many children that need sports and other activities to motivate them to stay in school and out of trouble. Do you think that the budget cut would affect the schools of the children as much as people think?

America's Economy
The economy in America is so horrible and it only seems to be getting worse. I mentioned in a comment under the "Jobs" post that my mother is a teacher in Marion County.
To back up my first sentence, last week I was so saddened by what she told me, that it really made me realize just how awful the economy is.
She said that a couple of her students parents had to quit their jobs because they could no longer afford to drive to work and half her class is now taking the bus to school because their parents can't afford to take them to school.
After that she continued to tell me how horrible she feels by asking her students to complete homework when a handful of kids, just in her class, don't even have homes anymore. These poor kids are living out of their cars with up to five family members amongst them. How do we let our economy get this bad? I think the government should reevaluate their priorities when it comes to spending billions of dollars on war when there are children who are trying to get a good education, that can't even do that!

Iraq's Surging Oil Income
Many of the people in America are getting tired of the war and they are trying to figure out why Baghdad can not pay more of the costs. Republicans and Democrats are looking at Iraq's surging oil income and saying Baghdad should start picking up the tab, mainly for rebuilding hospitals, roads, power lines and the rest of the shattered country. There are some officials that predict that Iraq is headed toward a major windfall because the price of oil is rising and record-setting production levels. Now, because of the high price of oil Congress is unhappy as the United States heads into election season. American troops in Iraq are not reaping any benefits. They are buying fuel on the open market at $3.23 a gallon and spending some $153 million a month, according to a recent report by The Associated Press. I think that Bagdad should start to pick up the tab, mainly because right now the United States is going through so many different things, like poverty and high cost of the energy, and there are so many people here that need the government’s finical help. Do you think that the United States should continue paying for fuel costs in a country that has the second largest oil reserves a burgeoning budget surplus?

Facing a possible staffing crisis the government is warning U.S. diplomats that they may have to serve up to another year in Iraq or Afganistan. They are currently searching for prime candidates and volunteers now. If the diplomats refuse to serve in either of these countries and do not have serious health issues they will be dismissed from their positions.
Now I find this to be ridiculous. You cannot force people who are not in the U.S. military to actively serve in a war zone (whether it's declared or not). Last year when the U.S. were trying to do the same thing a diplomat stood up in front of Secretary of State Rice and told her that this was like a possible death sentence.

Gun Control:SERENA WELCOME
Both candidates, Obama and Clinton have the same feelings about gun control. Clinton talked about how as a young girl her dad taught her to to shoot a gun. Obama criticized her for making the statement. It's all well to debate, but neither of them has done much about the gun issue.
American History X
There has been a lot of talk about race recently with Barack Obama’s speech on March 18. In his speech Obama kind of hints at a national conversation about race. There is a certain dichotomy that exists in our country. On one hand we embrace equality on the nation level, but on the personal level racism rages on. Simply because we denounce racism on the national level doesn’t mean we as a nation can divorce our self from those who are racist or simply afford ignore them because they are part of are country.
Although, I totally agree with Obama I’m not sure how this racist drift can be resolved. It’s such a personal issue, I’m not sure what the government can do to help unify us as a nation. It seems like any governmental program that tries to close the racial divide just stirs more racial unrest.
If you’ve never seen American History X I would recommend watching it. It kind of highlights the kind of racial dichotomy that exists in our country.
Anyway, here is a link to Obama’s speech.

Gas Prices
I saw on the news a few weeks ago, that some government officials called in the presidents of the major gas companies. All the government officials did was, ask a couple of question about why the prices are so high. The officials basically put on a show to make it look like they are trying to do something about gas prices. As they act as they are doing something the price of gas slowly rises. I wonder when the government is really going to get involved, because if they don’t that refund they give us will be going into the gas companies pockets.
"That Boy"
Republican rep. Geoff Davis referred to Barack Obama as "that boy". That wasn't a direct racist word but indirectly, it was a racist slur. Davis later apologized for the remarks he made towards Obama. He must of realized that it wasn't the right choice of words.
Clinton: SERENA WELCOME
Last week, Hillary Clinton, threw back a shot of whiskey in front of camera crews. I don't think that that was the most professional thing to do, even though it was only one shot of whiskey, still, she's running to become our first potential female president. All I can say is have a little class Hillary.
D.C. Madam :SERENA WELCOME
Deborah Jeane Palfrey, 52, was basically running a prositute service that was directed towards men of high political status in Washington. She tried to say that whatever the women did on their own time with the men, was exactly that, their own time and she was in no way responsible for that. However, it is obvious because these men were paying anywhere from $200-$300 to have a woman for a few hours. Most men would be expecting sex. She was convicted of rackateering, money laundering, and using the mail system illegally.
Government Refund
I think the government refund that President Bush is giving everyone is a smokescreen. President Bush is offering a temporary solution for a long term problem. He wants to go out on a high note and leave the new President with the mess he created. Don’t get me wrong I’ll take the money, but I doesn’t change the fact that most American families have been crippled and $300 a person will not even come close to helping them.
Barack Obama : SERENA WELCOME
A few weeks ago Obama was being extremely criticized for going to the same church as preacher that basically has a problem with white people. Obama admitted to this, but he also gave a very good explanantion for why he did. Obama says that everyone has bad qualities and good qualities and that's why he still goes to the Church, he didn't approve or agree of what how his preacher felt, but there were other things that he did like about him, he was saying the same with about his grandmother, a white woman, who didn't hide her feelings about how she felt about black people, black men in particular, and even said the "N" word in Obama's presence. Basically what he was saying that everyone has their good qualties and bad qualties, you just have to learn to get past them.
Don't Play That Card....
I am sick and tired of candidates using either their race, gender, or some other ploy to get voters to vote for them regardless of the issues. This elections seems to be full of it to me. Obama uses the young card and the black card. McCain uses the veteran card. Hillary uses the woman card. When is it going to end? I wish they would just stop these dumb ploys for votes and focus on the issues.

Presidential Elections Getting Personal
I read an article on the CNN website that stated that Hillary Clinton was attacking Barack Obama for calling some Pennsylvanians bitter people that "cling to guns and religion". I understand that they are opponents at the moment, however, I don't think these candidates should be cutting eachother down so much. I would like to see some type of unification among the democratic candidates.

Darfur
The Darfur conflict in Africa is a genocide no way around it. The media in the U.S. doesn’t report it so most Americans don’t know about it. Basically hundreds of thousands have been murder just because of their race. I don’t understand why governments that are capable (not just the U.S.) don’t get further involved. I think that Darfur is a perfect example of the government and the media ignoring very important issues that should be addressed immediately.
Death for child rape?
In Louisiana, a janitor was arrested and accused of raping boys in the bathroom. The Supreme Court said that no one can be executed for rape of an adult but they did not mention child rape. This should have been mentioned a long time ago. The question is, should you execute a person who has ruined someone else life for ever?
Universal Healthcare
Would everyone be willing to pay more taxes, if it guaranteed everyone recieved the healthcare they needed. Universal healthcare would help heal people who needed it and couldn't afford it. I think a little extra taxation would go a long way for a lot of people. Especially the people who couldn't afford it.
New Abortion Bill
"By a 3-2 party line vote, the Senate health and human services appropriations committee just passed Majority Leader Dan Webster's bill (2400) requiring women seeking a first-trimester abortion to get an ultrasound that they'll likely have to pay for themselves."Personally I feel that abortion should be allowed in certain cases. I think that rape, incest, and a girl under the age of 15 are all good candidates for consideration for different reasons. I do not however believe in the whimsical idea that abortion should be used like birth control which is why I think that this bill a good step towards decreasing the number of rushed abortions in Florida. I believe that having a mother see their child will give them some sense of connection that they may not of previously felt and they may change their minds.
The Death Penalty
After reading one of the articles Mr. Q posted, I began to think about the death penalty.
I personally do not believe in using the death penalty to punish criminals. I think no person on this earth has the right to decide who lives or dies. We, as a society, kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong.......Now I don't know about you but that seems kind of stupid to me.
I don't think it is fair for someone to live out their lifetime in prison while my tax dollars pay for everything but when it comes down to it..if I make the choice to kill someone as punishment for his/her crimes, how am I any different from that person?
And it is not fair that some people get the death penalty for a crime and someone else committing the same crime may not get it. If we are going to be so careless with human life, atleast we could be consistent!

Charlie Crist for Vice President...No Thank You
"If Florida Governor Charlie Crist is selected as McCain’s running mate, 30% say they’re more likely to vote for McCain, 31% say less likely"
This is a pretty sad viewing of our states governor. Personally I support McCain. I am a Republican, but in no way do I feel like Charlie Crist needs to do anymore damage to our government at the state or national level. I realize that our country is in a recession but the way our state is having to slash its budget to stay in the black is ridiculous and I personally am disappointed in the way he has handled our state in his term as governor.
"Imagine their (the people's) reaction if McCain picked a single man who has never owned a home, prefers to 'change hearts and not the law' on abortion, and has distanced himself from a campaign to ban gay marriage."
Maybe Charlie should stop allegedly thinking about being a running mate and start focusing on problems here in his own state...
McCain's Promises
Senator John McCain spoke Tuesday about the focal points of his campaign. His speech called for "calling for tax cuts, a freeze of discretionary spending for a year, higher premiums for better-off Medicare recipients and elimination of federal gas taxes this summer to reinvigorate the sagging economy." These sound like vacuous, lofty promises, especially the gas price reduction, on McCain's behalf. The damage that our economy has sustained over the past four years could potentially be irreparable, and I think it's insulting of McCain to attempt to say that the solution is as simple as the speech on Tuesday painted it.

Is Obama "elitist"?
Recently, both Clinton and McCain have made remarks about Barack Obama being "elitist". I think it's hypocritical of both them. Running for President is an inherently elitist endeavor, and it's fair to make the argument that American politics are as well. I really liked Obama's response, that the "politics of division" have distracted us long enough from what truly needs to be accomplished. It's regressive of both Clinton and McCain to "sling mud" in such a fashion.

Why does Hillary stay in the race?
I'm really having trouble understanding why Hillary stays in the race. She has virtually no chance of getting the nomination. If we can calculate that out in our political science class I'm sure she has advisors that can tell her she has no chance of winning, or even if somehow she does, it will just get McCain elected. Is this an effort to keep the media focus on the Democrats? If this is actually some plight to somehow benefit Obama’s chances in the general election why does she keep running negative adds like the ‘I’m not bitter’ campaign in Pennsylvania? It just seems to me like she’s damaging the Democratic Party’s chances of getting into the White House by staying in the race. The only conceivable reason I could think of why she would want to stay in the race is maybe Obama will drop dead and she will get the nomination. But, even if Obama does keel over, and she does get the nomination she is still behind McCain in the state polls.

Bush Ordered $200 million

Medicare Crisis
There is an increasing number of elderly patients that are living longer and that have more complex needs. Now, because of this increasing number there are not enough health care providers or specialists in geriatric medicine; in the United States there are only around 7,100 certified in geriatrics per every 2,500 older Americans. Medicare fails to provide for team care that many elderly patients need. "This July, the government will begin steep cuts in Medicare physician payments, and 60 percent of physicians say this cut will force them to limit the number of new Medicare patients they can treat," the AMA said in a statement. AARP, the organization for older Americans, said the report highlights the growing need for immediate action to improve and strengthen the health care and long-term care work force. I think that of course it is a good thing that there are a lot more elderly people that are living longer, however, it is sad that doctors can not take care of all of them and give the older people what they need. This is also sad because part of the problem as to do with doctors being underpaid. However, I do hope that this problem does not continue to worsen because there is an absolutely huge number of baby boomers that are about to enter a health care system for seniors and not only is it not ready for them but many are discouraged from getting the quality care that they need. What do you think can be done to fix this huge problem that can and will affect many people?

McCain's Gas Tax Holiday
Senator John McCain proposed a tax holiday for the summer. The plan calls for the elimination of the federal gasoline tax for the summer. It would result in a $10 billion dollar loss for the government but gas prices will be lower for the summer. I think its a good idea. People will have more money to travel with and also more money to spend shopping which will in turn put more money into the economy. Plus who can argue with lower gas prices in the summer when they usually sky rocket up.

RE:9/11 Demolition Conspiracy Theory
It's not entirely unreasonable to question how and why the world Trade Center was brought down. In fact I think it’s are patriotic duty to question why and how are country was attacked. If more people questioned the Reichstag Fire maybe Hitler wouldn’t have risen to power. I know it’s the common conception that false flag attacks are only used by maniacs seeking world domination, but it simply isn’t the case. The United States has sponsored false flag attacks simply for the purpose of raising generating public support for government agendas. Look at Operation Northwoods. I don’t care what kind of results people end up at after reviewing information on the 9/11 attacks. It’s just important, as citizens, that we don’t always eat up the spin presented to us. It’s so incredibly ignorant to try and persuade people not think critically about a world event as important as 9/11, especially when you do so in the name of patriotism. I’m not trying to promote outrageous conspiracy theories, I’m simply trying to advocate the ability to question the government for the sake of our country.

Texas Two Step
Recently there has been much debate over the democratic primaries for the state of Texas. Texas is allowed to have both a caucus and a primary, allowing for its residents to vote twice. Even though this system was created by the states government, in a way I feel this gives more of an advantage to the candidate that wins Texas. Does this mean they have the chance to win more votes? Also it does not make much sense, that one district in Texas carries more weight than another. As a voter, I would find living in a district that does not count for much, I would feel discouraged and as if my vote does not really count. I wonder if this is a major concern for most voters living there and if there are future plans to change the system.

9/11 Demolition Conspiracy Theory
There sure are some crazy people out there. Im talking about the ones who claim that the World Trade Centers were taken down by a secret demolition team. As if it was possible to rig two entire buildings with the materials needed to physically take them down with out anyone knowing about it. It would have taken months and several hundred people to rig buildings of that size. And for that matter why would our own government blow up the Twin Towers? It is a preposterous and arrogant attack on the U.S. government.

Saddam's Bombmaker
Last summer I read Saddam's bombmaker by Khidhir Hamza and Jeff Stein. The book is somewhat of an autobiography of Hamza’s time working as a nuclear weapon’s engineer for Saddam Hussien. The book is pretty entertaining but it’s caught a lot of heat for how Hamza exaggerated his role in the Saddam’s nuclear weapons program. However, I would still recommend reading the book because I think it kind of represents a remarkable spin put on Hamza’s role in Saddam’s regime, and furthermore, the kind of spin that was put of Iraq that got us into the war.

Education Cuts
Recently there has been many debates about education cuts in the United States and a number of them will affect college students. Some sources have said to cut bright futures to only those majoring in certain subjects. Others have said only giving financial aid to those who truly need it. They were also stories about taking summer school out of colleges. But if they do take summer school out, how will that affect out other semesters? Will we have to take on more classes? With the arrival of the new pope to the U.S, I wonder how the rest of the country is going to react. Gas pricing rising
Everyday gas seems to be increasing by more and more and many can no longer afford these prices and have to resort to cutting into other parts of there daily budget to make do. Some try and plan those" no gas days" but they ultimately do not work because people are always in need of gas daily. Not only that but planes and buses also uses gas daily to transport people.
Jobs
American big corportions seem to be out sourcing more and more jobs. Countries such as Mexico, Brazil, India and other asian countries seem to be the ones taking over our jobs at lower costs. Should america stop doing this and should there be more added job security?
Obama's Dissability Plan
Obama has a great dissability plan. Obama says he will try to increase the employment rate among the disabled. I think this is great. My father has recently become disabled and will have to leave his job; to go on permanent dissabilty you only get $700 dollars a month. Yes that money helps but when you think of mortgages, car payments, utilities, cable, internet, groceries, gas, and supporting a family; $700 is nothing. I'm sure Obama's dissability plan could also help many other families.

Taxes
I keep hearing about all of these candidates wanting to cut taxes. If taxes are cut, programs have to be canceled or other taxes have to be increased. I understand that no one wants to have less money, but doesn't it make more sense to increase taxes rather then decrease? Or is it just a dilemma of keeping people happy and the economy up rather than keeping government funded programs running?
Down-Slide
Our country's economic down-slide has also severely impacted entertainment, on all fronts. The American public is hesitant to buy or purchase has cause a significant decline in the nation’s expenditures in entertainment and other economic markets. In fact, the U. S. Treasury Secretary, Henry Paulson, stated that the U. S. economy was in a 'sharp decline'. http://www.comcast.net/news/articles/general/2008/01/31/NEWS-USA-ECONOMY-PAULSON-DC/ I sincerely doubt that Bush Administration's $152 Billion fiscal stimulus program will generate the number of jobs and spending expected to rejuvenate the U. S. Economy when the rebate checks hit the market in May. Most Americans will use the funds to cover the necessities of life, which have also risen due to the troubled economy, such as fuel (gas for cars, heating/cooling homes), food [import/export]), and shelter. Families are down-sizing in every area, especially entertainment.
A Domestic Impact
The declining economy has impacted not just domestically, but also international imports/exports as far as North Korea. According to the Harvard International Review, "With a decimated population, a decade of economic recession, and a dearth of communist allies, North Korea has begun to infuse capitalist elements into its supposed workers’ paradise." The North Korean Government has embarked on a number of dramatic reforms with a Chinese twist to attract foreign, US, investments. North Korea’s leader Pyongyang "has taken the chance of loosening its grip on power in order to try to rejuvenate its crumbling economy." However, its own political initiatives may backfire and cause it's flirtations with the free market to be simply doomed to failure! http://www.harvardir.org/articles/1093/

Is America ready for a woman president or a minority? Even though America claims to be the land of the free and with numerous opportunities and equality rights i do not think that they are ready for this. How do you think our country will react if one of them wins office?

Education
Education, that is to say the Florida's Bright Future Scholarship Program, has felt a direct threatening blow due to our downward spiraling economy. In the state of Florida a lottery was passed to supplement the needs of education. However, due to the budget shortfall for education, "the politicians took out of the education budget an amt. equal to what the lottery supplied & Fla. Bright Scholars scholarships are to be funded by the lottery, but due to revenue shortfalls dropping or reducing it was considered!" http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/blog/2008/02/where_does_and_should_the_mone.html. The State University Presidents want to control program cost, that is to say the Florida's Bright Future Scholarship Program, by increasing requirements, while they also increase the availability of need-based aid " ... recommending a reduction in the number of scholarship awards by increasing the academic eligibility for Bright Futures scholarships, that is to say increase the Academic Scholars Award SAT score from 1270 to 1330, the 95 percentile, and increase the Medallion Scholars Award from 970 to 1070, the 65 percentile. This will make Bright Futures truly scholarly ..." http://www.fc100.org/documents/positionpaper31403.pdf Due to the education budget shortfall, with only 2 months remaining in the current school year, this District has to reduce its budget by an additional 7 million.
Medicare being affected
This slumping economy also threatens the Medicare provision in this country for the baby-boomers population. People have county on this program being available when they reach an age of need, but with this economy, this program is seen as a potential drain on an already deficit economy, which may be more of a death sentence than a resolution, "There is no way to solve this problem without either raising taxes or cutting programs, or doing some of both. Right now that is a political death sentence, and we have to change that... ", http://www.pbs.org/moyers/journal/blog/2008/02/where_does_and_should_the_mone.html.
Cut Jobs
The slumping economy has cost some in industry to cut jobs and slow the development (supplies) in the housing markets. This has one of the majorly hit markets in the country's slumping economy. In fact one article stated, "In Washoe County, residential buildling permits dropped 67 percent since peaking at 6,404 permits in 2005. The 2,089 permits for 2007 are 39 percent lower than the previous year and the lowest number of new home permits in 15 years." The housing market, which directly impacts individuals employability, is getting obviously worse and people are looking to politics for some form of resolution. http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/13947612.html

Democratic Parties wants John Mccain to be investigated because he violated election laws by withdrawing from public financing, saying federal regulators are too weak to act on their own . He was approved for 5.8 billion dollars. Do you thinkMccain really felt that way about federal regulators then why ask for the funds. If he's braking laws now what will happen appointed office.
Just A Shot
Obama took a stab Clinton concerning her taking a shot. I didn't understand his reason for that its not like its against the law or she is drunk during her speeches. Does having a drink defines her character I'm quite sure there isn't a law stating you can't have a casual drink if you are running for President. To be honest I feel she is proving that she is human just like us and whether her drink was to sooth her mine or increase her feel good high it doesn't matter. How do you feel about that?
Nascar and any auto sports should be banned
I think there should be a guzzling tax, Do you agree or disagree that a tax on vehicles that use excessive gas should be charged a extra tax. Example mudding trucks they have extra large wheels and big pipes and all to make them sound like massive dinosaurs running down the street. I never would have thought that there would be people who clean there trucks just to put more mud on there vehicle so the mud matches, that's a wastful concept and something needs to be done, these individuals that do this are killing the planet and they have no consideration of enivoronmentlist that try to help the planet. Along with nascar there should be a ban on all these sports that involve excessive gasoline or petroleum usage, this needs to stop no matter on how much they donate it's not enough to equal the benefit to if they stop.
Journalist freed by Iraqi army
Richard Butler, a CBS news journalist was captured two months ago, now finally being rescued by the Iraq army. Butler recalls the army as ''brillant''. Butler was rescued as part of a Iraqi operation to free up towns operated by criminal's. Butler is an example of how the Iraqi army is developing into a dominant force in their country. The United States should be proud of what they are accomplishing, with the army and government of Iraq. Butler hopefully will not be the only one rescued, but the Iraqi people can now feel alittle safer, about their own safety, and hopefully soon the U.S can step aside and let Iraq develop.
Drinking Age
The national drinking age is an issue that is highly debated and especially popular among high school and college age people. Although I do not drink and would not choose to even if I could legally do so, I find this issue quite interesting. I think that lowering the drinking age to 18 may actually help the problem. If teens could drink at 18 it would be a lot less exciting as it seems when you are doing it illegally. Also less teens would be drinking in private places and getting wasted if they could just go out to the club and drink with friends and stuff. I don't think having the drinking age as 21 helps any so I don't see moving it down to 18 hurting anything. Do you agree or disagree? Why?

Personal Attacks
Recently there has been a lot of personal attacks by Clinton on Obama and vice-versa. Personally I wish they would stick to the issues and leave each others personal business out of it if it isn't relevant to the situation at hand. I don't think they should be allowed to attack their candidates personally. Does anybody else think that there should be some kind of restriction on personal attacks against opponents in political races?

Botched Weapons Testing
In North New Jersey there was recently an incident that could have been catastrophic for one family. A large shell fired from the base actually fell through a families house and injured their cat so much it had to be euthanized. Although, I have always supported our military when it comes to war and even weapons testing i feel that there should be a greater effort on their part to make sure accidents like this do not happen because if it possible for this to happen what ensures that a worse accident then this wont occur.
Removing The Military In Iraq
Although, most of the candidates say that if they are President they will pull most of our troops out of Iraq in a short amount of time i feel that this is not possible. The reason why I feel it is impossible for a quick romoval from Iraq is the plain fact that we are so involved over there that if we do pull out quickly the Iraqi government will fall apart and terrorists will take over once again. I feel the candidates say it is possible to get more votes even though they really know it will take some time.
Suffering economy in The United States
In the United States our economy has suffered terribly the last couple years and is evident throughout the country. For example, the building industry has suffered a terrible blow and is almost at a complete hault. Alot of employees are being laid off because there is not enough since the majority of their usual customers just dont have the income right now to by for their services. I feel that this problem will not be solved soon and will have to most likely be solved by the new President. President Bush has tried to push for a 300-600 dollar rebate for those who meet the requirements. However, I feel that this will not be enought to jumpstart the economy and it will take something drastic to solve the problem.
Mass Graves discovered in Iraq
In an article on CNN's webpage I read that there has been mass graves found all over Iraq. Recently there was one found containing 20 dead bodies near a small town. The military stated that," it is probably about eight months old and that these people we most likely killed by Saddam Hussein." Reading this article just proves even more that the United States was right when they decided to take Hussein from power. It is our duty as one of the world's strongest countries to stop other mass murderers no matter how unpopular we become.
Religious Veiws in The Presidential Race
I recently read in an article sunday night that instead of the two democratic presidential candidates talking about issues like economics and politics both of them took the time the share their stance on religion. Both of them said that they are the type of person that beleive that religion is very important in our society and that they are both religious. However, I feel that the speeches made by these two candidates are not entirely true and are only using these religious veiws in order to take away votes that would usually side with a republican candidate.

Don't buy Gas Day
Everyone needs to stop planning these pointless "Don't buy gas days". You still have to buy it the day after and before and no matter what you always will. Even if you don't taxis and buses need to fill up daily as well. At the time there is nothing we can do to change the price of gas, we just need to get more fuel economical modes of transportation.

There is website sponsered by the UN World Food Program called www.freerice.com. When you visit the site you play a vocabulary game; for each word you get right 20 grains of rice are donated by the organization advertisement at the bottom of the page. It is a simple way to help feed the world without even leaving your home and it helps build your language skills. There have been over 26 billion grains of rice donated through this web site. Everyone should try it. Think about it, if just play it for a minute out of your day; it can only do good.

Big Company Aid
I don't know if anyone else has been paying attention to some of the new commercials from big companies; but there are a lot of big companies now participating in world aid that we can too. Granted this is mainly targeted towards woman but if you buy Tampax or Kotex products a portion of your purchase goes to helping send sanitary items to women and girls in Africa who can't afford them. Also when you buy Pampers they will donate diapers to under priveledged countries who can't afford diapers for their children.
