I am sick and tired of candidates using either their race, gender, or some other ploy to get voters to vote for them regardless of the issues. This elections seems to be full of it to me. Obama uses the young card and the black card. McCain uses the veteran card. Hillary uses the woman card. When is it going to end? I wish they would just stop these dumb ploys for votes and focus on the issues.

I agree to a certain extent that the candidates play on those certain cards, however, once again it's also the media that focuses on the age, the sex, et cetera. I think the candidates should focus more on the issues too, but they're just trying to win votes.

I agree. Issues should be the focus of campaigns. However candidates playing on those "cards" is what gains them media attention.

Although McCain clearly uses the military card (as has every candidate who has ever been in the military), I've seen no evidence of Clinton using the female card or Obama using the race or youth cards. I've seen other people use these things -- for the most part against the candidates -- but I'll wager you can't find anything even resembling Obama or Clinton saying "vote for me because of my race/gender."

I do not know of an example for Obama off of the top of my head, I would have to do some more research on that one. As for Clinton I remember watching a speech she was making to a group of women before most of the primaries and her something to the degree of "it's about time for a woman president and with your help we can make it happen," I would call that playing the woman card.

What they are doing is wrong. Although they are just doing what it takes to get them ahead in votes. They should be focusing more on issues but they have to do the popular thing to win. Neither will stoping using their advantages.

That's an offhand remark that means nothing. Everybody says things that audiences want to here. Playing the "woman card" would be something like saying "vote for me because I'm a woman and women are better than men" or "vote for me because I'm a woman and men aren't nice to women." Comments like the one you quoted are not seriously intended to get people to vote for her, it's a joke aimed at a particular audience. She doesn't really think people should vote for her because she's a woman, she thinks they should vote for her because she wants the job and thinks she's the best candidate for it.
