Obama said that he would like to put more emphasis on math and science in schools. I'm not really sure how he is going to do that. All the basic sciences are pretty much mandatory classes even here in Florida where we have a horrible education system.
The fact is, if you want more people that are good at science and math you will have to try to teach them that those kinds of number crunching jobs are fun. People in school usually are not in school to have fun, they are in school to get a piece of paper that says they know what they are doing so that an employer will pay them more money (or learn about the subject and then get a piece of paper). If the job is boring, or tedious, most people will try to steer clear of that job because they don't want to be looking threw a micro scope or at a bored full of equations for the rest of their life.

I think that if Obama puts more emphasis on the math and science courses in schools it would help out a lot of kids. Although, there would probably be some students that will hate it, there would be a great deal of students that would find it very helpful. Now, these students would most likely be students that what to become doctors, engineers, and so on.
