Republican rep. Geoff Davis referred to Barack Obama as "that boy". That wasn't a direct racist word but indirectly, it was a racist slur. Davis later apologized for the remarks he made towards Obama. He must of realized that it wasn't the right choice of words.

How was that possibly even considered a racist slur? It may have been politically incorrect to refer to a candidate no matter the race as "that boy" but it is in no way a saying that is reserved for blacks. I've heard it said for just as many white people as I have blacks.
I think this is kind of rediculous. In my opinion, the words, "that boy" isn't a racial slur. However, I can also understand that Mr. Davis is a republican representative and every little thing he says is scrutinized.
I think that those is public eye should what way they say when infront of a camera. I really don't see how this is a racial remark, just something that was blow out of proportion.
The only way to think this isn't a racial slur is to not know much about the history of the South. Davis, as an elected official in Kentucky, certainly knew this. Throughout history, calling a black man a "boy" was nearly as bad as using the n-word. It's such a common thing, it made it into the dictionary:

4. (ethnic slur) offensive and disparaging term for Black man
