It is so politically. I do think they are bashing the president himself but how he is running the country. This tends to happen everytime there is a presidential election just so that america will think they will do a better job than the one before. It also seems to happen when our country is not doing as well as it could.
A "good American" is not defined as someone that agrees with everything the current President says or does. If that were the case we would be a dictatorship. That being said, the previous response I believe answers the question of why they would bash the current president quite well. For votes.
In every presidential election the candidates say how they will do better than the current president, but that's the point. Don't you want your new president to be better than the last?
i dont want things to get better and better but it seem like some of the candidate have no respect for the current president, how can u have pride in your country and u dont even respect the man in charge of it?
Like Julie said, every president in history bashed the previous president of the other party. There is no connection to whether or not someone bashes the president and whether or not they can be a good American.
When Clinton was president, almost every single Republican and conservative bashed him. Since Bush has been president, almost every single Democrat and liberal has bashed him. By your logic, there are no good Americans.
I don't understand how any presidential candidate can have the audacity to "bash" the current president. They may very well one day be in the same "hot seat" position. There is a way to disagree with the President without extreme condemnation. - Shane Sadler

I kind of want to hear the candidates "bash" Bush. Look at what's he's done to our country. Look at what he's leaving the future president with.
Bashing is a part of politics. Politicians are very adamant about what they believe and they are naturally going to disagree with other politicians.
