After reading one of the articles Mr. Q posted, I began to think about the death penalty.
I personally do not believe in using the death penalty to punish criminals. I think no person on this earth has the right to decide who lives or dies. We, as a society, kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong.......Now I don't know about you but that seems kind of stupid to me.
I don't think it is fair for someone to live out their lifetime in prison while my tax dollars pay for everything but when it comes down to it..if I make the choice to kill someone as punishment for his/her crimes, how am I any different from that person?
And it is not fair that some people get the death penalty for a crime and someone else committing the same crime may not get it. If we are going to be so careless with human life, atleast we could be consistent!

Yeah, I totally agree with you. I don't think people should be condemned to death. Plus, the tax cost is generally higher to execute someone than to keep them alive. There is a pretty good article on the cost of capital punishment here.

I'm not sure if I agree with the death penalty or oppose it, but I don't think I could decide unless I were in the position of the families who lost a loved one to a murderer. I know I say now I wouldn't want the death penalty, but if someone ever killed my son or daughter; I would definitely want them dead. It's definitely a touchy subject.

The reason why we're not "consistant" is because each state has the ability to choose if they want to implement this kind of policy or not.
Also I have to admit I do agree with the death penalty as long as it's used in moderation. I am ok the idea that these people that are proven with out a doubt by DNA or first person eyewitness should be forced to sit in jail for a long period of time and have to repent and think about what they did and then they should be put to death. To almost take it one step further, I know this would never happen and it goes against all constitutional rights but I think that for some people that were horrible murderers they should be sentenced to die the same way their victims died.

I couldn't have said it better myself! I strongly agree with Dakota on this topic. I always put myself in the shoes of the victims' families. If someone in my family was ever murdered and their murderer was sentenced to the death penalty, I think it would ease the pain. Even though the death of their murderer couldn't bring my family member back, I agree with the death penalty.
I agree with your stance on the death penalty. I don't agree with killing murders in the same way they killed their victims. That is kind of sick.
ease the pain....?
That sounds like something a sick murderer would say after being asked why he killed...
I just don't understand. That's like fighting violence WITH violence. How do you solve the problem by USING the problem?!? Doesn't make sense. We want drugs off the street so would it be more effective to have law enforcement go out and throw weed bags and rocks out to the people?
