I am literaly so sick of hearing people whine about torture. Now it comes out that Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice gave the CIA verbal permission to waterboard some big name terrorist. I honestly do not see what the big deal is about that. If it gains useful information then what is wrong with using it? If it saves ONE American life, then what is wrong with using it? It is in a controlled environment. No one is going to literally drown the terrorist. How else is our military supposed to get through to people who willingly blow themselves up to make a point?

I agree to a certain degree. Torture has been used probably since there were people on the earth. Obama is just making a big deal of another issue to make Bush look like a bad guy. Yes it may be true that we need to monitor this more closley, but it is not something that we should stop.

You said "controlled evironment." How is it controlled. Who regulates the extent of torture? The point in this debate is that we have crossed the line and violated previous international human rights laws that we wrote regulating torture. We are going to keep making exceptions to torture, it's a slippery slope. Just because someone is American doesnt mean that their life is more valuable than that of a supposed terrorist. Both of their lives are worth the same. We have persecuted Japanese military personel for crimes against humanity for using waterboarding after WWII. Now we are using it. It makes no sense.

I can honestly say that I do not have a problem with torture, if we are torturing the right people. What happens when we torture someone that really does not obtain any useful information. One out of two things are going to happen in that situation. One, we are going to kill an innocent person because of the feeling that they are lying when they say that they do not know anything, or, we are going to force that person who really does not know anything, to lie as if they do know something. That in itself may and probably will cause a dozen more problems. Do we want any of these things to happen?
