Ok, so I have an idea...
Communism didn't work, Capitalism isn't working, both had great ideas but were fundamentally flawed. Communism didn't work according to capitalists because it didn't allow for the concept of competition, a very basic human instinct, to be incorporated into its economic structure. Capitalism isn't working according to communists because of it's incorporation of competition into every aspect of society, encouraging neighbor to undermine neighbor in the ultimate goal of increasing personal monetary capital, ultimately ignoring the concept of cooperation, a very basic human instinct.
Lets mix the two.
Capitalism that works for the common good. Capitalism that's based off of human capital instead of monetary capital. If a country's GDP and GNP were altered to be based off of the Human Development Index, it would increase competition among nations and institutions both public and private to achieve a higher rate of literacy, a lower rate of poverty, a higher standard of living, and so on...
Just a thought...
