Networking or "Not"working??

In current news there is a story a med student in Boston, Mass. whom has been arraigned without bail due to the slaying of a woman whom he had made contact with through a Craigslist ad. Craigslist of course is the free networking and advertising website that is open to public use. In this time and age when we are so fascinated with our Facebook, or Myspace or maybe even posting a Craigslist ad like in this case, are we opening a door for crime? Or are these type people like the girl whom was slain, just not protecting themselves well enough?

I think that people ought to be cautious in all aspects of their lives, especially when it comes to the internet. Don't be paranoid, just be prepared. When you are out on the web, consider the other people who have access to same websites. That includes rapists, serial killers, con artists, and sexual predators. Just be smart.

If people choose to meet someone over the internet, then that is their own doing. Whether it be over the internet or in real life, the decision on who to trust and not trust is left to the people involved. How many people have been murdered by meeting someone they met outside of the internet? The answer is many. People can be fake in real life, just like online.

I think that it’s both circumstances that lead to the unfortunate accidents that occur. As much as I would love to defend facebook or any other sites like it I can’t. They are defiantly opening the door for crime. I think it’s a great way to keep in touch with friends but it’s still risky!

In this particular case I feel some users of these “networking “ sites are not being careful enough. What users need to realize is there are many crazy people out in the world, and offering too much personal information is dangerous. This case has not yet been solved. Although they have accused the man of murder, he has not been found guilty yet. In the article they stated a women a few days prior in the same hotel was robbed, tied up, and beat up. This women apparently had an ad in Craigslist for a massage in a hotel room. That is asking for something to go wrong. People need to be more cautious of what they are willing to sell, and who they are willing to sell it to.

Once you click on that browser icon you have to be educated enough that in this day in age anything is possible, deffinatly on the internet. You honestly never know what could happen. The only way to protect your self from this kind of stuff is to not use these "networking" systems. The call is yours.

We have definitely made ourselves victims waiting to be attacked. You don't know who is at the other end all you really know is nothing. It is dangerous and we shouldn't allow ourselve's to get trapped in a false sense of secutiry to be truthful there is no such thing.
