Obama decided to not attend the U.N conference on racism next week, April 20-25th. There is final document that will be discussed at the conference that may single out and offend Isreal. This choice was made because recent hard feelings between Isreal and U.S. Hopefully this action taken by the U.S will show Israel that we do respect them.

Although Obama's choice not to attend the conference may be observed as a step to show his stance on the matter, a stronger and more effective choice would have been to go to the conference and voice his opinion if this is truly the way he feels. Although I know the U.S. does keep good relations with Israel for certain reasons with benefits, I do feel we may have more important allies in the United nations than Israel.

We can only hope that it does. Alot of people found it controversial that Obama went and tried to make ties with them but atleast he can backup his word. This is a good sign coming from our president, something we havnt seen in a while. I think that it's a smart move for him to make considering he is going to be judged very closely until we get out of this war.
The US and Israel have extremely good ties, Hillary Clinton recently said that the US has no better ally in the world than Israel. The US supplies Israel with $9.1 billion of its $9.5 billion annual military budget. I believe the US and its allies boycotted the conference simply because they knew they wouldn't be able to defend Israel when it came to the situation in Gaza.
