Obama has been told by Cuba’s former president Fidel Castro that he misinterpreted his brother Raul’s message. Raul said that Cuba was going to meet with the U.S. to discuss everything. Obama and America took it as Cuba was ready to negotiate a forty eight year old blockade. But once Obama called on Cuba at the Summit of Americas to reduce taxes on their people and release political prisoners; Castro enlightened Obama that his little brother was referring to the principles of the revolution not negotiating. I feel that Raul really does believe in talks with the U.S but has to abide by the way of Castro out of respect of honoring him with the presidency. Once Castro passes will be when America and Cuba can move forward.

Unfortunately while Fidel Castro is still alive Raul will have to at least appear to be on his side. With Fidel still holding on to the presidency, he has the ability (and I wouldn't put it past him) to get rid of anyone he feels doesn't see eye to eye with him. Until Fidel is gone, there is little room for discussion between the United States and Cuba.

My father is Cuban and I was raised in Miami witch has a large Cuban community so this post was interesting to me because it strikes close to home. I believe that once Fidel passes that his brother will continue to run the same ship. It will take some time for the Cuba feud with the U.S. to die down. If Fidel dies and it changes that would mean that one man caused too much suffering for the nations people.
