DENVER, Colorado (CNN) -- A Colorado man was convicted of first-degree murder and a bias-motivated crime and sentenced to life in prison for killing a transgender teen he met on an online social networking site.

Murder is such a senseless crime in my opinion. No one deserves to have their life cut short by another human being's actions. The question that comes to my mind in this situation though, is would this man have gotten such a harsh sentence had the teen not been transgender? Also, would the media have jumped all over this story if it were just a regular teen it had happened to? Finally, was it really possible to find a 'jury of peers' with no bias for a case like this? As despicable as this crime was, it just makes me wonder if our courts claim of "innocent until proven guilty" really exists for everyone.

Considering this is being covered all over the news I heard the story, but never saw it in the view that you have given me! Personally I have to say that it probably would not have been brought to such attention if it had not been a transgender- not discriminating on anyone- it just seems a little more unusual then just a normal teen murder. I find it all linked back to the technology haters also- by giving them more fuel to aim recents crimes towards the internet. If you stay safe, and dont be sketchy online you might not find yourself linked with strangers that could potientally hurt you.

If you really want a true answer to that then just trun on the news or open any paper in America. Blaks and Hispanics are killed by whites and others as well as their own all day everyday but it doesn't make the news because it doesn't matter. If blacks kill blacks it's expected. If whites kill blacks it's because they stole something or porbablly started the fight. That is a narrow view but it is the truth.
