The United Nations is concerned that the rebel group the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and even the government of Sri Lanka are in violation of international law. Both sides of the conflict are shooting at the civilians held hostage between the two forces. According to international law the LTTE must allow the UN to oversee the safety of escaping civilians and the government should aid in protecting those who have made it out of the war zone. I feel the UN holds the right view on this conflict but needs to act quicker in stepping in and preventing further loss of innocent civilians.

The UN can't do anything without individual nations military support, we blame the UN for being incapable of acting when the problem lies with individual countries in the Security Council. Which is why we should abolish the veto vote, or at least allow a possibility for the international community to override the veto.
