NEWTON, Iowa (CNN) -- President Obama marked Earth Day Wednesday by announcing a new initiative to lease federal waters for the purpose of generating electricity from wind and ocean currents.

Our country is trying out yet another great alternative energy source. This is a great step in the right direction for President Obama. Why this was not done before I am not sure, but better late than never. Actually using natural resources to convert to energy, while opening up more job opportunities, is an example of the amazing developments our country is making.

This is a great way to start turning things around. People spend so much time worrying about our economy, our president and even our own personal lives that they forget none of that will be possible if we run up all of earth’s resources. No more earth...no more POLITICS! :) So all of you who love to talk politics and point fingers should probably start worrying about the planet first. This is a great step by Obama!
Agree, Agree! Its just like you said why wasnt this done before- the technology is not new, and in return can provide jobs for our follow Americans boosting the economy in all ways! I love the going green movement that has gained serious speed since Obamas election, and hopefully it wont die down- and will continue to gain speed and make great advancements. Like Janie, GO OBAMA!

I glad to see the Obama administration carrying the green movement forward. I like the ideas of natural energy such as wind and solar and find it to be the cleanest and efficient solution to future energy crisis. I hope that the low gas prices don't cause people to forget the importance of finding alternative energy.
