Take Their Federal and State Funding!

Take it all!!

Have any of you been following the situation with the Marine Recruiters in Berkley??

From what I've been hearing on the news people in Berkley California have been protosting the Marine Recruiters being there trying to get young people to join. To the point of calling them "Uninvited and unwelcome intruders." I saw vidoes that almost made it seem riot like. People burning bicycles and stuff. (Why you would burn a bicycle I have no idea but whatever.)

I understand if you don't support the war but that's crazy! Men and women of our country are over there fighting..some have lost thier lives and this is how these people act? If they weren't over there I'm sure things would be alot worse than what they are now. The reason they can protest like that is because of the first amendment. You wouldn't have that right if people didn't fight for you to have it!

After the city wrote a letter to the Armed Forces about these "unwelcome intruders" the government supposely threatened to cut off federal and state funding because of how they were treating these Marines. I say take it all!!!

Kristen, don't think for one minute that the gornment will take the recuirters funding. The services depend on their affectiveness. In this posting it is hard to follow you points.

The right to free expression isn't given by the First Amendment - it's a natural right inherent to all people, regardless of their government's policies on the matter. Military action in Iraq isn't doing anything to protect that right either - no one in Iraq has tried to force America to change the Bill of Rights.
I agree with the protestors - I don't welcome recruiters onto our campus. People are trying to get an education, and these recruiters are telling them the best way to pay for it is becoming cannon fodder in an unjust war?! Sounds like a raw deal.
Also, don't assume all military personnel would be angry about these protests. I'm positive the vast majority would, but there are those who hate this war and their job, and want out.

Kriten I agree with what you are saying. I do not see the point in civilians getting mad at the marine recruiters. People are entitled to their personal opinions and all. I beleive that it's childish to take your anger out a particular group. Some civilizans may want to join the military. I just think that people should leave miltary personnel along. Soldiers have a job just like everyone else. The only difference is the American flag that we wear on our shoulder. The fact that we want to protect the people of the United States.

Mr. Amuso
You are entitled to how you feel about recruiters being on campus. If you don't want to join some no thank and move on. Recruiters do nort lie to you. They are right, not having to pay for college is a plus. I knew what I was doing when I signed my contract. I was proud of the decision I made. Your personal opinion may be based n experience you have encounter. I know for a fact that when my baby brother decided that college wasn't for him. I told him the only other joice was the Army. I refuse to allow my brother to become a bumb. The military teaches you things. It enable you to have a different level of respect for yourself. Some do not bashed the recruiters they are just doing their job. So just because you do not agree with their career choice, doesn't mean that they should not be allowed to be on campus and recruit.Besides I beleive that it will be a nice feeling when I graduate at 23 and be debt free. And another thing college coaches recruit for atlethes all the time. Those atlethes are looking for a way to pay for college as well. So, do you think sports recruiters should be allowed on campus? Just something to think about.

Turner, the government was not threatening to take recruiters money..they were threatening to take funding away from the state of Califorina because of how they were treating the recruiters!

Matthew you said you don't want recruiters on your campus because you are trying to get an education. You act as if they are with you in the classroom. How is someone stopping you on your way to class to share information with you keeping you from getting an education?? Just a question. And I'm sure that there are some military people out there that agree with the protest but why do those people have the right to protest??

Thank you Amanda. I agree that everyone has the right to disagree but what these people were doing was just absolutely disrespectful and embarassing to our country!

I think if someone does not appreciate what our Armed Forces does for us to the point where they treat them like that then they can leave and try their luck in another country!!

Kristen P., Once again your on the mark. If a recruiter stopps you to ask you to join, "just say No/Not interested." As for the state of California, they really can't afford to lose the big business of the Military. I was stationed out there for 2 1/2 years, an the servicemen spend some major money out there. The military employees many people from the surrounding communities. Also a great deal of high-tech, companies in the area make parts for the big defense machine. Lastly it is very disloyal and disrespectful as you have said.

I agree with the students...we go to school to get an education. We all know that the marines and the army and all other branches have offices. If we are interested in going into the military, we'll stop by. Leave my education alone!

Jd White, must or your educations is paid for by the government, so surely their protecters have a right to be on a campus in which fought for.

But doesn't the government pay for "most of our education" with our tax money?

Josh jones, your right, i can't make a dirrect claim to that most of our taxes go to eduacation.
