(I'm not looking for credit on this..I'm just trying to reach the kids!)
Listen you all. If you got something on your mind, on ya chest..please go talk to somebody about it! Don't bring all that to Chipola! There are people out there you can talk to..at your school..friends..family! I'm cool with everybody! I love all yall!! If you need someone to talk I will listen!!!!!
How do you feel about this? I'm scared to go to school! I'm fat too so you know I can't run as fast as some of you!! It's all on the news..some other crazy is going to see it and think, "That's a good idea!! What a way to send a message!" I don't think they should show as much of this on tv as they do. Four in one week?!?!!? I'd be willing to bet my life that atleast one of them got their idea from seeing one of the others!
Do our schools need more security?!? Do I need to wear my vest to class?!? All I know is no more cute shoes to school. Nikes from now on!!

Kristen P. You should get credit for this posting because it really is a political issue. That issue being that we need to pass tighter policies and inforcements when it comes to protecting our students and teachers from harm. This past adiministration when to war to "protect innoecent American people from danger." Are not our students and teachers innoecent? Do they not need or peotection as well? Don't be scared, be instead proactive, let's make the government here our voices. Like Obama Girl!
When is the government going to let us protect ourself on private property? Its absolutely insane that one cannot carry a firearm on a college campus with all these school shootings. Banning guns is a hotbed for illegal activity.
the world has always been a crazy place. I don't know what the margin of time is for the longest amount of time that there were no wars. In other words, similar things have been happening since time probably began. All we can do i try to be as nice as possible to EVERYONE and keep hoping that this world will be more like heaven or Utopia some day.
That is not all we can do, Merillis. They need to pass a law so people can carry firearms on school/private property. Imagine if one person (student or teacher) in any of those instances had a firearm on them, they could have saved many lives. I truly believe that good people outweigh the bad people and there are more hero's out there than villains.
I agree with Turner on her reply. I go to school every day and see people there whom i know do not attend the school. I have actually gone on FSU campus into class rooms and i do not attend there. They need to check ID's of students and tighten up on the campus security, it is very easy to get in and out of any campus i have been to and i would feel much safer with some more security because honestly they don't do much right now.
I don't think they should allow people to carry firearms on school campus. I can understand private property but not school campus. If everyone walked around campus with a weapon there would be more shootings at schools then the people going crazy because everytime someone gets mad enough they would start shooting. It would be more of that then the shootings now.
I have a license to carry but I would never take a gun to school if it was law. Folks are too crazy for that many people carrying pieces to school! Fail a quiz and kids would be popping off!!!
They've got to do something!! Until then smiles and hellos to everybody I pass!!!!! And like I said before..I will definetly be wearing my nikes!
you cant even carry one in your car under a lock and key on a school campus, it is absolutely insane, any idiot can just walk up on the campus and unload bullets until the police show up. How many lives can you take in 2-3 minutes? All it takes is one hero. and one second to put an end to it.
lawyer, obviously you are not a gun owner. But do you honestly think of Americans like that to just "start shooting whenever someone gets mad". I think people in colleges with CCWs value their life more than shooting at god knows what when they are mad. Guns are not used for aggression in they are used for protection, unless in the wrong hands in these cases. I am a little weary of the carrying gun on person idea, but i think it should be legal to have one in an automobile under the legal 2-step process that it is everywhere else except on school property.
I just recently got my actual permit but my dad (who is a fireamrms instructure)taught me years ago how to fire a weapon. I think unless someone is properly trained it would probably do more harm than good.
Andrew J., just when I was starting to feel a warm fuzzy place in my heart for your post, YOU KILLED IT. Many times I think you are JOKING or just plain old INSANe, notice it is with a little, that's a litte off the rocker. Okay enough of the fun stuff, lets get down to business. Allowing people to legally cary guns at school will not work, people mature at very different levels and there-for the levels of responsibility are disferent as well. Who then will determine if they person getting the gun or bringing to school is responsible enough to: get trained, know how and when to use it or think about the consiqeunce of pulling it or using it? Lawery, is right, more guns on campus more shooting you wouldn't believe how having a gun will boost up someone's ego and agression! That for instance the kid who got killed in Gainsville; "My sympathy to his family." Because the punk young adults in the car he blew at had a gun: Some mother lost her son, some brother, lost a brother, a friend lost a freind, a father lost his son, and on and on. Back in the days you would have to gert up your loins to fight with a knife, now days it don't take even a thought for someone to pull a trigger, and once that trigger is pulled that bullet can't be stopped and it want come back.I think like Lawyer and Kristen and I have been a gun owner numerous times. I've also been Graized through the eyebrow, almost shoot two times all by inexpierenced gun owners. I was markmenship trained and achieved the badges for "expert markman" in serval different types of weapontry. With that experience I also swa first hand the results, of not being properly trained to handle a firarm.Being in the security field I also learn that "most fatalities in an a home evansion, comes from the victims on gun." If in the right position I could show you how to disarm a gun willeding assailent, I, tought my eight year old. Then I told him to never use it just as Kristen would say "put on your NikEs" and run. In most of these shootings there was no time to responde so a ghun would not have helped. Run don't crawl, crawling is to slow and congested, there is no real cover from the bullets, you have seen college desk.If a shooting occurs "EVERYONE SHOULD BREAK-OUT RUNNING FOR DIFFERENT EXITS." The life you save my just be your own.
My suugestion it like they have "Air Marshals" They need the same type thing in classes, you never know who they are until they are needed. "College Class Marshal" formaly trained advanced combat trained military students would be great. I' am going to the grovern with this idea, as well as the colleges. Kristen helped me think of this, because I thought what would it take to end all these school shootings. Marshals are highly trained in hand to hand combat and advanced weapontry. Sorry the response was so long.
maybe i should have said that i do not feel that anyone with a regular concealed weapons permit can carry on school campuses. There should be certain training and certification ect. to do so. I once read of a school shooting where a principle drove/ran home to get his fire arm and saved quite a few lives. I looked for it online but however i cannot find it. I just think lack of firearms in any instance is a hotbed for crime and illegal firearms, its just so damned easy to walk onto a campus and open fire. Which brings me back to campus security, or should i say, lack of campus security. TCC campus security is a disgrace, I see so many people day to day that i know do not attend the school and they are just hanging out. Any crazy person could just walk/drive up and open fire. As i stated early i am very fuzzy on the whole subject but i know something must be done because schools in the US are not as secure as they need to be.
What do you think about the class marshal idea. Because of my past line off work a guy that saw me going to TCC said he knows what I drive and were I go to school an that he was going to get me. So I went to TCC police and informed them of my type of employement and the treat, so that i could be justified and legal if I actualy had to defend myself.
It's a good idea, but i am not sure if it would be cost effective vs. other methods. I wonder how much it would hurt a schools budget to pull off the project.
If you think about it metal detectors are very costly to put at every building or class, then you must have trained people to operate them. With the {CM's} the college it self can pay for them by a couple of options, for example. 1) paying for full time tution, books and meals for the {CM's}. 2) Pay them a salary and tution. 3) Allow the {CM's} child to attend that college for free, or a family member, etc....Right now I' am fresh out of other potentail pay arrangments but please fill free to help me think of some. Just think we can start something that will forever change or impact college as an open range for violence.
>When is the government going to let us protect ourself on private property?
Schools are not private property (except private schools). Colleges, like the ones where these shootings have taken place, are public property.
>Banning guns is a hotbed for illegal activity.
Not according to any available evidence. All countries that have gun bans have lower rates of murder and most have lower rates in violent crime and overall crime as well.
>That is not all we can do, Merillis. They need to pass a law so people can carry firearms on school/private property. Imagine if one person (student or teacher) in any of those instances had a firearm on them, they could have saved many lives.
I'm not aware of many incidents of heroes taking out villains in an armed shootout. They might have saved lives, they might have also cost lives. Beyond that, most people don't want to live in a place where armed shootouts happen in public places.
>How many lives can you take in 2-3 minutes? All it takes is one hero. and one second to put an end to it.
If this were so, why isn't there any evidence to back this up?
>But do you honestly think of Americans like that to just "start shooting whenever someone gets mad". I think people in colleges with CCWs value their life more than shooting at god knows what when they are mad. Guns are not used for aggression in they are used for protection, unless in the wrong hands in these cases.
The evidence is pretty clear, though, that lots of "law-abiding" citizens who have never committed a previous crime and who purchased a gun legally then go and kill people. In fact, there are more incidents of this in a given year than total gun murders in any other modern industrialized democracy in the world. And while you might not use your gun for aggression, it makes little to no sense to say that "they aren't" used for aggression, because they clearly are. A school shooting is an aggressive use of a gun.
>I once read of a school shooting where a principle drove/ran home to get his fire arm and saved quite a few lives. I looked for it online but however i cannot find it.
There's a reason you can't find it, as far as I've seen, there's no evidence that anything like this has ever happened anywhere in the world. I could be wrong on that, but no one has ever shown me evidence to the contrary.
My best friend just finished his "post doc" in Geaneva they are not allowed to have guns over their. He and his family felt totaly safe. he said that there was almost no violence. The only and worst thing that happend in two years was a large protest by college student throwing rocks at the police, some were arrested but No Death and No serious injuries.
I AGREE WITH THIS BLOG. I AM SCARED TO WALK AROUND SCHOOL NOT KNOWING WHAT IS GOING ON. PLEASE NO ONE SHOOT UP TCC. IM BEGGIN YOU NOT TOO.
I agree about wearing the Nikes to class. I do think that its sad that someone thinks taking other people lives will make them feel better. I feel bad for the vitims not the guy who turned the gun on himself after taking innocent lives. I must admit I think that was a punk" coward" move. He sholud had just shot himself. There was not need to take innocent people with him. I believe that he was just selfish and miserable. No one will ever know that if this man received couseling if it would had help. In the end it was a coward move.
Well I feel sorry for the people who are responsible for these types of things because obviously they are sick people. I mean, you never what somebody is going through where they feel there is no way out expect for something like that. It's just sad. It is a cowardly thing to do but obviously someone is not in the right mind set when they do something like this.
I hear it was over a breakup with his girlfriend. Does anyone know if she was in that class?
It's a scary world out there; especially here in the U.S. After reading the post, I sat and pondered on something. Everytime I hear a report on school shootings, it's always happening here somewhere in America. I look at these other poor and rich countries and I realize that there are hardly if any school shootings. America must be one horrible spot if there's shootings in learning instituions.
