Do you really think it's wise to idolize any politician this way? These are people whose entire career is dependent on manipulating public perception of them, so that they can gain political power. Reaching a high political office is a process of trading favors for money, and I really can't trust anyone who's been through that process. Honestly, I don't trust anyone who wants as much power as the American president has.
Matthew, wrong word choice, I don't "idolize" anyone as you put it. I just think it is about time that we (young men, black/white and any other race) should have a young American role model. The criteria is not that he must be perfect, just relatiable, of noble charactor, trustworhty and properly eduactated. My question is can you prove that he is not as I have said. Andrew I also agree with you when you say for the most part politicans can't be trusted. Mr. Obama is not a life long politican because of this I firmly believe that he has not become diseptive as others might be.
Life-long politician or newby, he's still a part of the system, and it's the lust for power that creeps me out the most. That's one reason I don't want to run for office ever, except maybe on the local level - I don't want that kind ofpower over anyone, pure as I like to believe my motives would be.
Hey though, maybe your right about him. We'll have to figure that out after he spends some time in the Oval Office.
I would say though, we young people have had plenty of excellent role models, just not politicians. Authors and musicians have definitly filled that role in my life.
Matthew A., we really can't prove that he has a lust for power. To the best of my knowledge he has never said that he wants power. He has said however that I want change for America. They are not even close to the same thing. Some people run for a high office position for the power and prestigiousness but some are really there, to just make a real difference. Their are many role models not just politicans, musicians, authors and proffessional athelets. Parents are or can be great role models, teachers, college kids, bosses and even the handicapped can be role models.
Yes he is this and that, but that's not the only things that count. What about the policies that he agrees on; do you agree also? He may be a good guy but may have flaws that me and you just can't stand!
Now that I, actually let the field thin itself out with the early primaries. I can now focus on the issues, their veiws and their prior voting history.
Turner, name a couple accomplishment Obama has done, i cannot find anything on the guy.
He survided being a multi-racial child. He embraced both sides of his heritage, White & Black. He graduated from college. He run for the senate and was elected. He got married had kid's and became a family man. He kept his nose clean as a young male and he stayed focused on what he wanted in his life. Andrew J. I "really don't know any more than you do about Obama.
So your wanting a person with little to no political accomplishments, whom which you know nothing about to run the most powerful position in the country, maybe even the world?
O.K from what i gathered. You like him because....
1. Hes half black half white
2. He has kids and a wife
3. He graduated from college
4. he kept his nose clean..?
these reasons seem under par for the position he is running for.
For number 4, if you are referring to not using drugs you are wrong. It states in his biography that he has abused drugs many times.
Yeah he was elected senator but can you name one thing he has done while partaking in that position, other than a horrible attendance record? McCain is no better, but how do you expect someone who cannot even do the job he has now right, do a job that is WAY more important.
Hey look, i found one thing he did in office as a senator. He voted for the act you despise about 5 blogs up, The Patriot Act. Maybe you can look past the image and give me some more substance on why one would vote for this man, I for one, am not convinced yet!
I know how you love the cites.

Andrew S., now it's fun again. If not really knowing the Presidental Canidates or of their past political histoy was the determinating factor I as well as many Americans would not vote. In many different studies the data show that people tend to vote off a feeling, look or an emotion. Most voters do not vote out of a in-depth knoweldge about canidate or that canidate's true standings on issue. That might be the problem with who we as Americans have elected over the past years, maybe we should do in-detph reasearch on the canidates. Who has the time, even in that there are no guarenties of the out come. I, didn't know as much about George W. Bush when I voter for him! So I feel a sence of resposibilty for voting G.W. Bush into the white house.
That reminds me of a video I saw on the Onion News Network about the "idjit vote". Don't worry, I'm about to post it. As for a history of drug use, that's not such a bad thing. I wonder if he has any ideas about the war on drugs.
i was not saying it was a bad thing jones.. to some it may be, i was just clarifying that she stated he has been drug free, which obviously he hasn't.
Turner, do you not feel that the job of a president is not important enough to look into who you are trying to vote in. I think you need to reconsider the way you look at it.
I'm not saying anything about in depth knowledge about a candidate, just at least go to their website and find out who you really are voting for, not just what they look like or how they act.
Not sure if i would want a prior coke head as a president now that i think about it, to each his/her own. At the moment Obama is not my first nor second choice but its still too early.
>So your wanting a person with little to no political accomplishments
Just because someone who posts a blog comment doesn't know someone's accomplishments doesn't mean the person doesn't have them.
>For number 4, if you are referring to not using drugs you are wrong. It states in his biography that he has abused drugs many times.
Actually, it says no such thing. It says that he used cocaine a few times. Use and abuse are certainly not the same thing and there is absolutely no evidence that he "abused drugs many times."
>Yeah he was elected senator but can you name one thing he has done while partaking in that position, other than a horrible attendance record? McCain is no better, but how do you expect someone who cannot even do the job he has now right, do a job that is WAY more important.
He had a horrible attendance record while running for president. Same as McCain. Same as every other member of Congress who runs for president while still in office. There is nothing notable about this. It makes no sense to compare these two to other members who aren't running for president, you have to compare them to other candidates for office.
>I'm not saying anything about in depth knowledge about a candidate, just at least go to their website and find out who you really are voting for, not just what they look like or how they act.
You really should take a bit of your own advice on this one. You said that he hadn't done anything and that you couldn't find out anything about him, but just by following your advice and actually going to Obama's web site, you find this:
"In the Illinois State Senate, this meant working with both Democrats and Republicans to help working families get ahead by creating programs like the state Earned Income Tax Credit, which in three years provided over $100 million in tax cuts to families across the state. He also pushed through an expansion of early childhood education, and after a number of inmates on death row were found innocent, Senator Obama worked with law enforcement officials to require the videotaping of interrogations and confessions in all capital cases.
"In the U.S. Senate, he has focused on tackling the challenges of a globalized, 21st century world with fresh thinking and a politics that no longer settles for the lowest common denominator. His first law was passed with Republican Tom Coburn, a measure to rebuild trust in government by allowing every American to go online and see how and where every dime of their tax dollars is spent. He has also been the lead voice in championing ethics reform that would root out Jack Abramoff-style corruption in Congress.
"As a member of the Veterans' Affairs Committee, Senator Obama has fought to help Illinois veterans get the disability pay they were promised, while working to prepare the VA for the return of the thousands of veterans who will need care after Iraq and Afghanistan. Recognizing the terrorist threat posed by weapons of mass destruction, he traveled to Russia with Republican Dick Lugar to begin a new generation of non-proliferation efforts designed to find and secure deadly weapons around the world. And knowing the threat we face to our economy and our security from America's addiction to oil, he's working to bring auto companies, unions, farmers, businesses and politicians of both parties together to promote the greater use of alternative fuels and higher fuel standards in our cars."
You can also find quite a bit more by going to Obama's entry on Wikipedia. That took me about two seconds to find this information. Now you or I may or may not agree with these accomplishments, but they certainly are accomplishments and there appear to be more than a few of them.
Correct me if I, am wrong but did you say he put this in his biography? Does that sound like a man who is trying to hide something or someone who is not acctepting responsiblity for his actions? Do tell how many other Presidents have owned up to who they are?
i was just correcting you, if you can read up a few posts i said that it was no necessarily a bad thing to everyone.
Kenneth, i was aware of most of these. I did post a link to his site, and i did briefly go over these. I just found it amazing someone who idolizes the man had/has no idea what he has done politically the past 10 years.
LIKE, APPROVE OF, AND IDOLIZE are all very different words Andrew S. But it is apparent that they mean the same to you. I am learning how to be more computer savvy as we speak, so I will pass a very unique feature on to you. “If you open up a word document when you use a word you can actually look up the correct meaning of the word or words in which you are using.
Even though you claim to not idolize him, your words in your opening blog speak otherwise.
>Matthew, wrong word choice, I don't "idolize" anyone as you put it. I just think it is about time that we (young men, black/white and any other race) should have a young American role model.
explain to me the difference between a idol, and a role model in this instance. Please leave out anything to do with religion. I know the definitions of these two so don't copy and paste some "mumbo jumbo" from the internet. Explain to me, in your own words the difference between idol and role model FOR THIS CASE.
Actually I don't want Obama to come any time soon. Sure some of those things you said might be true(except for that junk about being an honest politician, THERE ARE NO HONEST POLITICIANS) but that man literally scares me to death. I just don't trust him.
What's so scary about him, I just don't see it?
