Mrs. Obama, running for president is historical, not because he is the first black man to run for president in American history. Yet he could be the first black man to do so successfully. He has also made his mark in history because of his creative use of the internet to reach the younger voter crowd. His clever use of the internet to raise large amounts of Champaign funds successfully by a black man. He is also making history by being a black man who is winning most of the popular vote as it stands right now. We can be hopeful as a country that one day we can even get more African Americans into the Senate and The Supreme Court; this would go a long ways in truly representing America because in the history of the Supreme Court, there were only two blacks ever appointed.

I feel America would be more represented with all minorities having a more active role in government. I'm growing tired of hearing about the "white elites" running our government. Maybe in time.
Josh, I also feel the same way you do, I think that in history only five of six minorities have ever served on the highest court in the land.
I would like to see more minorities run too. But keep in mind that the whites are "ellite" because they are the biggest population. With other populations growing in size in the United States I suspect that with this election, alot of minorities are going to be more confident running in elections.
Brittani; Are the "whites Elite" I'm not sure that there are now more whites in America. Africans can over at a much higher rate On the "SLAVE SHIP" that is. I will look it up but it think that the "white elite" are becoming the "white minority." Please don't take this as a personal attack on any race of people, if you truly know me, my family and my life style you would know that "I, Live and Love all walks people and they are very instrumental to my life!
>Josh, I also feel the same way you do, I think that in history only five of six minorities have ever served on the highest court in the land.
Actually, only two minorities have served on the Supreme Court, both African-American.
>I'm not sure that there are now more whites in America.
Whites are still about 65% of the population, although they are growing slower than other races. The current projection is that whites will be less than 50% of the population by 2050, although there will still be more whites at that point than any other individual group.
Mr.Quinnell told us in class as of right now white people are still the majority of people but that it won't last long for whatever reasons.
I agree with this blog. I think America can not truely be represented without more minorities in positions of government.
Thank you Mr. Q, for the clarification. Hi: Kristen Paul, I hope work went well for you. I must have missed it when he said that in class but thank you for informing me.
As kristen mentioned, I believe that america is better represented when there are different minority groups that have places in the government. I think that this is a period of inevitable change in US presidency if a democrat wins the presidential election.
Yes it is as you both say, yet we must remember that this country has some kind of secret checks and balances to keep true diversity from happening.
>Yes it is as you both say, yet we must remember that this country has some kind of secret checks and balances to keep true diversity from happening.
You must be joking...
Only a little bit, but I do believe it might be less than obvious to most people.
>this country has some kind of secret checks and balances to keep true diversity from happening.
There are several problems with this. First off, we have true diversity. We are one of the most diverse societies in the world. What we don't have is equality, but that is different from diversity.
Second off, there is no evidence for any kind of "secret" system. There is evidence for racism, sexism, etc., that prevent equality, but there isn't anything secret about it.
Thank you Mr. Q., there is diversity and little if any Equality, although I know the differnce I did not word it correctly. The "Secret System" is the good-old-boy system in which I do feel is very preveilent even today in governments at every level in the United States. That very system being hidden but often practiced: racism, hate etc...
Something is telling me if he wins this presidential election, and if he is not assasinated, he will make one great president. He has the chance of maybe being the best president of all times because when, you look at his background (from my perspective), he is someone who comes from a minority race, and at the same time I would think he's accepted from many rich and nonrich european individuals (that's just the tip of the iceberg). Also, not to play the race card, but I realize that we African Americans do many things very well whether it is sports, reporting the news, politics, etc. In other words, we give what the the people want, and we make the majority happy. That's just my opinion.
