Cuban Possibilities

I do understand that Cubans were once in much greater turmoil in their homeland, But why do they still get a free pass to USA? If you are not aware, I believe that the USA has some type of agreement with Cuba which allows cubans to step on US lands and not have to be deported. Yet there are other "refugees" coming to the USA that constantly get deported from the US. I didn't know that Cuba was our fifty first state!

Yes, it is as you say, that being they seen to get a free pass to the U.S. In most cases they have some whealth, maybe that is a thought, maybe the only difference.

Mr.Quinnell told us in class about something that happened back in the day. I believe it was with Cuba. Something about the slaughter of the pigs. (Mr.Quinnell, please correct me on this if I'm wrong. I don't quite remember)

IF it was with the cubans then I think we owe them one!!!

Bay of Pigs.

So that was with Cuba!! Ok, so it was the Bay of Pigs! The U.S. made an agreement with Cuba and when the time came the U.S. did not hold up their part of the bargain and cuban people were killed.

So yes, I think we owe them one..or two.

Well there are other countries that have political asylum agreements with the United States. The political system in Cuba is one of the most oppressive regimes on earth today. If a Cuban refugee would be deported back to Cuba, he or she would instantly be taken to 're-education' camps to be tortured and brainwashed into being a good communist member. Here in the US we don't like to send people to torture camps. That is why Cubans get to stay here if they land on US soil.

They're not the only ones being tortured, but I guess we place different values on different people for reasons that elude me.

A person that shall remain nameless and his relation to me undisclosed is in Cuba right now. He has said that Cubans try to cross the fence into the base at Guantanamo and they are quickly caught and returned to Cuban government officials. He has said that he has heard gunshots as they were returning to the base.

This isn't even remotely accurate in the present. Several decades ago this was true, but it isn't in the present. The world's worst regimes are ranked annually by a consortium of international groups. Cuba doesn't even make the Top 10.

I wouldn't exactly call risking your life to to make the treacherous journey from Cuba to Florida with a small chance of survival a "free pass". The Cubans found in water are sent back to Cuba. If they set foot on dry land are allowed to stay. I don't know much about the consequences of Cuban immigration but I admire those with the courage the leave. They are risking their lives for freedom, one thing most Americans take advantage of.
