Raising the driving age in Florida

I believe the state of Florida should raise its driving age from 16 years of age to 18. I think a lot of kids are too irresponsible to be let behind the wheel of a car at 16 because their at a age where they think they are invincible, and they are more willing to take unsafe risks. I know more teenagers under the age of 18 who have died in a car accident from using a cellphone, drinking alcohol, and generally driving unsafely compared to adults in my community. Also, with the prices of gas going up, the state could benefit from cutting down on the waste of gas teenagers contribute to our state because they like to ride around after school, and on the weekends looking for something to do. Raising the driving age might also help kids rearrange their school priorities if they can't drive until after they graduate or when they become a senior in high school. In my experience, I just don't believe learning how to drive a car at 15 with an adult for a year is enough time for teens to truly realize that driving is a privilege, not a right.

I think the driving age should remain at 16 but only at the condition that they recieve more than just a year of driving with a parent. I think they should have to take numerous classes prior to recieving a license. Not all teen are irresponsible so they should not be held accountable for these actions. I also think if teens are recieving tickets and getting in accidents less than a year after recieving their license that they should be revoke for 3months and they teen should have to go back to some kind of drving courses.

Not all teenagers are going to be irresponsible. You have to realize that it wouldn't be fair to those that do know how to be responsible. There's other ways to solve this problem than by raising the age to 18. More classes could be required. Or maybe the road test could have more strict requirements to pass
