Should felons be banned from voting?

Have you ever wondered why felons are banned from voting? Are they not still Americans who have rights? I feel that although someone have committed a crime and are now a felon, we should not ban their right to vote. The decision to vote in a election should be left up to that individual. Would you not consider this a violation of their amendments? What are your thoughts?

In my opinion, felons are not what I consider free. I do not think that they should be able to vote whether it is a violation of their rights or not. Why would we want a felon picking our president and helping pass or decline laws? They have already broke laws to the point of becoming a felon, and then we are going to ask them if they would like to help America pick our president? That is crazy!

Ok, isn't knocking over a mail box on purpose a felony because they consider it's tampering with mail? Do people who make stupid decisions early in life deserve to lose their right to vote forever? No! Good people sometimes make bad decisions.

I challenge anyone who says felons shouldn't be allowed to vote to give any good reason they shouldn't be allowed. Prisons are in place for people to pay their debts to society. Once they are out of prison, their debts are paid. They are still, always were, and always will be citizens of this country. If we don't allow felons to vote, you can't take into consideration how many felons are out there without felonies on their records. I'm sure you all know people who have dealt drugs, slept with somebody who was seventeen, assaulted somebody, knocked over mailboxes, opened somebody else's mail, etc. It's hard, if not virtually impossible to live and not break laws. You really can't point fingers and take away given rights to people who make mistakes or get caught.
