Racism in small communities in present day America

Racism in small communities in present day AmericaThis is coming from personal expense. I am a multiracial child with a white mother and black father. I grew up being picked on and stared at like I was a freak. How has racism changed in present day America? I ask myself that from time to time. In bigger cities it has gotten better for individuals much like myself. But in small communities it has not got any better. I still get looked at like a monster. My mother is called rude names and my father is called a scoundrel. I still face it today with my children growing up around vicious people that are intent on hurting their feelings by calling them names such as half breed. One question I know that will be asked to them that has been asked to me a thousand times “what race do I prefer?” Why should we have to choose? Why can’t we all just get along?

Ashley, I agree 100% with you. I grew up in NYC, and believe it or not, there is still pockets of racism around there, or at least there was when I was there.

But I also lived outside of NYC, and that is where racism picks up. When I was in Junior High, I had a black friend, I am white, and I really got along with him.

All the other white kids would hit and kick me calling me a n***** lover. I didn't understand, perhaps because I have always been a bit naive.

But I look back on those times and I feel very sad.

Just be yourself. And remember, racism is ignorance. There is no logic behind it, so don't look for any. And its not just about blacks and whites, racism is everywhere, with every type of group.

I suppose humans have a need to make up for their own inadequecies by putting others down. I don't know, but either way, racism to me is based on fear, ignorance, and hatred.

I can go on and on, but I think you already know all this, so just be yourself and strive to be all you can be, God will never fault you for that....be well!

I think that Racism is still alive everywhere not just in small towns. It may not be right smack in your face but it is there. Just look at all the sterotypes we have. It is sad when you have a bi racial child and they have to choose there side. I think that startes around 6th grade when people break into "CLICKS". Halle Berry was once quoted her mother saying to her " I'm white your fathers blacks and your black. That's how the world will see you and that the side that will accept you more" I think this statment is sad but true

Why is it always whites descriminating against black that makes people cringe. The NAACP is a racist organization. BET is a racist channel. If we had a NAAWP, we'd be deemed the next KKK, probably by the NAACP and their obnoxious spokespeople. I'm not saying racism doesn't exist...just understand that everyone deals with it, black white, hispanic, asian...more an more against whites!
