Honolulu holds the nation's first all-digital political election and city officials says it was a success. Starting May 6, 2009 some 115 thousand voters in Honolulu's neighborhood council election were able to pick winners entirely on-line or via telephone. The experiment appear to have little problems, and it saves the city around $100 thousand. This is the wave of our future, however web voting can not be used in city council or state elections.

This is a beautiful move toward a paperless and greener world. However I can see how alot of problems and corruption could come out of cyber voting..

The vote from home election process will never happen in a true democracy. Anyone with any real amount of computer training would be able hack into the election results. If this was to be implemented it would leave us without a way to recount the votes. How could we have a fair election?

This could be problematic...how do they know if people aren't voting twice? This must be a flawless system for it to work...but with technology advancing it's hard to believe that somebody couldn't figure out how to mess with the results and turn it to their favor...

I think this i a great idea, its a way to go green. However Honolulu's is a small town where problems are likely to happen. If the united States tried this, there would be chaos.

I agree with some of the other posters in the fact that it is a system that could easily be corrupted. However, if it was possible to make it a truly safe system, the benefits would be incredible. The voting system would be able to reach out to everyone, including those who cannot make it to local precincts. I think its a great idea, and at least one thats worth further study and experimentation.

Although an all digital political election would be more convenient for the environment, I believe that it is more susceptible to corruption. In these modern times with all the technology that is available at our fingertips, there are people who would be able to hack into the system and create chaos with the digital election. Like Randall stated, if it was possible to make a safe system, then the benefits would be incredible.
