Sorry Judge

The state senate approved major reforms Wednesday night that will cut the number of probate judges from the current 117 to 50. The cost of health insurance, pensions for the judges, their clerks, and retired judges have increased through years and have caused financial problems for the system. November 2010 elections will take place under the newly drawn district. Current judges without a law degree can continue, however new candidates running for probate judge must be a lawyer. I belive this is a good thing for the United States right now. Sure 67 people are out of jobs, however this will leave more money out there for the rest of the world. If the job can get done with 50 why did we have so many in the first place. During a reccession we have to think of all ways we can save a few dollars.

This doesn't tell me what you think about the issue, so you can't get credit for it.

I dont know if cutting benefits and pay for judges is a good idea. As you know from class, as income goes up, the incidence of corruption goes down. This is the reason the United States has such a low incidence of corruption, because we pay our officials enough not to be corrupt. As far as cutting the number of judges, sounds like a decent plan.

I do not agree with cutting the pensions for judges, clerks and retired judges. This is not going to solve our economic problem. I think instead, it will make it worse. Cutting pensions will cause the system to become corrupt. The best solution would be to minimize the number of judges. That is where the government can save the most money.
