The country is finally starting to help people with their fight against severe weather. The federal government is spending $5 billion dollars to make homes more suitable for all types of weather. 31 percent of the money is going towards states with hot climates such as Florida. This is the most money spent in this program since it was originated in 1970. I believe it makes sense to prepare for the terrible weather before it happens instead of waiting until one hits and the city is a mess.

I agree. Look what happened with Katrina..they're still cleaning up. Better to be prepared for the worst and be safe rather than sorry. Homes in this area definitely need to be hurricane/flood protected.

This is definitely a good idea. But what I'd like to see is this program being coupled with an effort from insurance agencies to reduce insurance costs for people who revamp their homes to be safer and more weather resistant. I think this may not only help people in having safer homes, but economically as well.

I am completely for building more severe weather resistant homes, especially in Florida. Hurricanes hot Florida all the time sometimes more than once in one summer. The damage done by these hurricanes is outrageous. Having better suitable homes will benefit everyone, especially the economy. This will help lower the cost of damages after a hurricane has hit.
