Don't let your job go to your head.
Judge Robert Restaino of Niagra Falls, New York sent 46 people to jail after no one accounted for a ringing cell phone in his court room. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? That is nothing more than halarious to me. Also, I feel embarrassed for the man. A little egomaniacal if you ask me. Get over it Robert. What is even more funny is the fact that the judge decided to release the defendants AFTER learning that reporters were aware of the large incarceration.

That is quite interesting indeed. This judge may have been agitated that morning. This puts his credibility as a judge into question.
I agree with you in that this is a bit juvenile in dealing with the phone, as this is how I punish my kids when no one fesses up to a mistake. However, there is no other place that I can think of where one should be at his/her best manners and hold the utmost respect. Even bringing your phone into a courtroom is disrespectful. Under most circumstances wont be a more important time that requires your attention. It enrages me at how much of our life that is interrupted by another's phone conversation: traffic, libraries, and restaurants I am forced to be a part of this conversation (that is usually louder than normal person-to-person talk) that I do not want to. So I agree with you, he overraected and it was probably not legal anyways, but I can understand the judge's frustration.
Can you just turn off your cell phones? I will say that is one of the most annoying things, when you are in a place that is generally supposed to be quiet and you hear "Umbrella" by Rihanna start blaring out. But incarcerating everyone for nobody owning up to their lover calling is just a little outrageous.
i'm surprised whoever was sitting next to the culprit wasn't like, "umm it's this guy right here, don't arrest me."
I agree that indeed is funny. I didnt realize that a judge had the power to do something like that.
Is there a rule or law against ringing cell phones in the courtroom? Talk about unfair punishment! Imagine finding out your girlfriend or boyfriend has a record for forgetting to turn their cell phone! Yes, I know it's a respect issue but I'm almost positive if people knew they would be sent to jail for their cell phone going off in the courtroom, they wouldn't even bring it in. Last time I checked, people weren't perfect and still made mistakes. The cell phone that went off could have belonged to an elder person that thought they turned their phone off but didn't. My grandma has a cell phone and asks me how to work it on a daily basis. I can understand being put out of the courtroom for a ringing cell phone, but I don't understand being put in jail for it.
People just get on a power trips sometimes. I don't really get it, but it must do somethin for that judge.
I think it's ridiculous..How is that in any way professional?
I am not a fan of the interuption of a cell phone ring, but this is over the top. I agree Robert is probley an egomaniac who got carried away. I wonder if any of those 46 people are taking action against the judge?
He must really not like cellphones, but it his court and he runs it how he sees fit. This is a little ridiculous though.
To me, this is funny. I mean we have some teachers at Chipola that would probably do something like this if they could get away with it. :)
Why are judges allowed to do something like this? They act like they are all powerful. There should be some sort of action taken against this judge for false in prisonment.
