Uneasy
America seems to be uneasy whenever China takes any actions. They were able to make America fret when they destroyed their old satellite with a land based missile. Now China wants to join the International Space Station crew, but America says no communists allowed. If America is so uneasy about China's status, why is it that the trading between the two countries continue? After all the lead in the toys combined with what seems to be our skeptical outlook of the Chinese, what are we doing acting like buddies?

When I bought a barbie doll for my daughter years ago, I noticed that it said "Made in China". I was appauld. Here is the All American Doll, being made in Communist China. At the time, Wal-Mart was still a sibling (grossing less than one billion per year), and everyone was worried about the Japanese, especially after they purchased Rockefeller Center. I wasn't worried about them. Much of that was hype. Japan, at the time, was only third in total investments in the U.S.
The second largest investor was the Dutch, and the first, yup, our former masters, The British.
But when China made the barbie doll, that got me nervous. It wasn't till many years later, that "Made in China" became a household word. How come people didn't say anything back then, when we could have had more influence in where our products are manufactured. Now it is going to be hard to pull out of that. Is anything made in America anymore? (dont' answer, I know there are still things made in the U.S.).
The reasons for my worries are that: China has the largest military, their human rights abuses are substantial, they have a different mentality then Americans, and if nothing changes, they appear to be poised to be the next SuperPower.
However, I don't think China will be blessed like this country has been and will be in the future. So, I hope that Americans will take a cautious stance toward China, but realize that globalization is inenvitable, and we should ways to control it that doesn't leave us on the short end of the stick.
Well the United States does spend the most money on their Armed Forces and have a large number of Allies. So most of my post was purely satire. Saying, "Why are we so worried about China?" They aren't so inhuman also, they are trying to reduce their emmissions of green house gasses and they built the world's largest dam in order to further production in their countries industry. All the same though, for a country we supposedly dislike we make quite a ew transactions with them. This is what I still wonder endearingly about.
We are uneasy about them because they are non-Democratic and don't always do the right thing.
That being said, they are a long way away from being a superpower and their economy is so closely tied to ours that serious conflict between us and them is nearly impossible.
I think every country is in agreement that money makes the world go around. It seems our greed far exceeds our integrity.
Maybe one day manufacturing will come back to the u.s. and we won't rely on forign countries so heavily.
