Not Good Enough
Some say we should stay in the war and some say that we need to pull out. Either way something has to be done quickly. This war is devasting to not only our economy, but also our soldiers. *Note: This image displays a soldier with horrendous injuries* It's a shame that there isn't some magical pill to make it all go away. If only we could have better medicine, more robotics involved in war, or just have abstinence from war altogether.

I would just like to make one point here. We have an all volunteer force. Good Americans have answered the call of our great nation, whether we agree with the call or not. Our nation has called and some have answered and volunteered to serve. Joining the military, especially during a time of war, is not a decision one should tread on lightly. It is like writing out a blank check to the government, made payable through sacrifice, up to, and including your life. I honor these service people for their sacrifices however I must keep in mind that they signed up for service and took the risk of being maimed, injured or killed. What I do feel terrible about is the way they are cared for by an ungrateful nation as time goes by. So, everyone who is campaigning for the war to come to an end, when it does, don't forget about those who have paid a great debt to our nation. Let's ensure we take care of them. And before anyone jumps on me about saying that soldiers sign up for being blown up, don’t. I’ve earned the right to my opinion through 17 years of service, two combat tours and a third on the horizon.
Since everyone says they support the troops, one way they can do that is to lobby their members of Congress to do a better job of supporting our troops. The majority of members of Congress -- of both parties -- were given poor grades by a group called Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America when it comes to voting to support the troops. If enough people contact their members of Congress, they will listen and give the soldiers who are sacrificing on our behalf -- regardless of how one feels about the war -- not only the repayment they were deserved, but were promised when they volunteered.
It is horrible no matter which way you look at it. When this nation was in a time of need after the devastation caused by the hurricanes I went right to work. I was only about 12 or 13 years old working as hard as I could to help with the recuperation of the cities. I didn't do it for any personal gain and sure didn't get any monetary for that matter. My name isn't written in any history books because of it and besides being cut by a few glass shards I didn't have any major injuries from it either. What these soldiers are doing goes far beyond a simple raising to the call. Sad to say not all of them have the same responsibilities and have the same hardships. My uncle for instance is in the army and hardly ever gets his hands dirty. So it is a specific group who sacrifice more than the average person can, those people should be respected. Those people deserve the honor that is already given to too many people and I believe.
I agree with what ronald said, "this is a volunteer force." When these guys sign up they know what the dangers of war are. Not to be insensitive, but people die in war thats how it works. And abstinence from war? What do you suppose we do diplomacy?
