What should we do?

To all of you that were satisfied with going to war six years ago, but now opposed to it. To everyone that wants our president out of office because you feel the war is now "pointless". What will you do when we pull out before establishing a government? Having our troops home doesn't fix the greater problems.

I believe that the threat is great if we pull out our troops now. We should have a long standing military presence in the middle east. It seems to be the only way to help secure our protection.

If the President wants more support he should think about restating the reason why we are at war and positive correlations with the war and our economy. If he can get these points across (if they exist), to the people perhaps the hatred wouldn't be so great. There are many ways to prove ignorance.

This sounds like a slippery slope. You should be explicit about what you think the threat is so people can evaluate your comment more clearly.

It is a false dichotomy to say that we either have to have a presence in the Middle East or we will be attacked. There are always other possibilities. Also, we've had a presence in the Middle East for a long time, going back to before the first Gulf War. It didn't prevent 9/11. In fact, al-Qaeda explicitly said that our presence in Saudi Arabia was one of the reasons they were attacking us.

We have actually established a government in Iraq. They have had elections and have had a parliament that has met multiple times.

I think that the president should pull the troops out of the war because it all seems like a big waste of time, especially since so many lives has been lost. And although a government may not be established i feel as though lives are more important, and maybe after a real reason for going to war in the first place is established then send the troops back.

I feel that there are certian aspects of war that the government and millitary leave the avrage U.S. citizens out of. There are probably good reasons why our troops are still over seas.

I believe that if we retreat now we will lose more respect from around the world. Our enemies will see that we can not stick to a long term commitment and it will show them that if they wait long enough, we will give up, because we don't like to be inconvienced for too long.

i feel that if bush wants this war so bad he should put a uniform on and go fight also and then maybe he will understnad why the community doesnt want this war so bad.

I believe if America had more support from the Iraqi people the war would advance a lot better. The Iraqi goverment only meeting 5 out of 12 set goals does not help. It is their country and not totally up to us to get it running. When will they start taking responsibility and action to make things better, instead of fighting with their own people and only slowing the process.
