WHy?

HAve you ever wondered; Why should the U.S. continue fighting the Iraqi war, when the Iraq government has only accomplished five out of the 12 goals established by the U.S.

Your post seems like it's against the war, but by saying they have accomplished 5 out of 12 goals so far, it makes it seem like our long term goal is within reach. This statement can be seen from two different perspectives.

I think that our goal is in reach if we can stick it out. Nobody said this was going to be short and sweet!

If we were to immediately pull out the middle east, it would erupt into an even bigger conflict.

Civil war would break out between the many religious factions in Iraq and its government is not strong enough yet to control its warring sects. A weak Iraq would also leave it open to attack from other nations.

As much as I'm against the war in Iraq, it now seems clear to me that we will continue to have a presence there for atleast another 10 years.

What a complicated issue. At this point though with all the money, resources and time invested in the war, it would be a shame to walk away from it having accomplished less than we set out to accomplish. And selfishly, when I was there I purchased one million Iraqi dinar. I would love to see it be worth one million U.S. dollars someday.

I must say it is a difficult decision. Though I doubt all the money we spent would go to waste if we were to pull out. Helping other nations is important, but I hardly believe it's worth such an uproar in our own nation. If we really want to help we should allow those people to abandon that country and seek refuge in our own. That couldn't cost our nation anymore money than what we are spending now.

No, this is not a valid interpretation of these details. This means they have achieved 5 out of 12 short-term goals. They can't even get the short-term stuff done, how are they going to get the long-term stuff done?

This post, by the way, is not long enough and doesn't contain enough of your own personal opinion to get credit.

It really is a snafu as military folk say. One one hand, we arguably need to get our poeple out of there and stop the American death toll; also, we simply cannot just pick up and leave for fear that the country may just fall to shambles with no concrete chance for survival. In addition, we may be in a lose-lose simuation internationally anyway, if we stay or leave and they do not succeed it may be percieved as our fault either way!
