Steroid Scandal in Baseball

I think the house oversight committee needs to stop worrying about steroids in baseball, and focus more on things that really matter. America is currently experiencing a war, economic slump, and record unemployment rates things the house should be focusing on INSTEAD of baseball. I wonder how much money the house has wasted putting baseball on trial, but no matter the figure, I promise that money could have been used for much better reasons.

I think that you have the wrong idea of how much time, money, and effort the Committee of Oversight and Reform is putting into MLB investigations. Personally, I think the media coverage of the hearings and what not give the idea that they are concentrating on just baseball. There have been only two full committee hearings on Major League Baseball and the Mitchell Report this year (Jan 15, 2008, and Feb 13, 2008). Between those two hearings there were 10 hearings on issues ranging from foreign affairs (Pakistani Elections), veterans' charities (questioned practices by founder), and military base realignment and it's affect on communities. Since then there have been well over thirty hearings on many issues.

People may be getting the wrong idea of what this committee does and who decides what they investigate. Their key issues are the environment, Iraq reconstruction, Administration oversight, waste, fraud, and abuse... so I think they have their heads in the right areas. Personally, I believe they are doing just fine questioning agencies, people, and organizations about practices that may not be ethical, fair, or necessary.

The government is changing the focus to steroids due to the fact; they do not want to handle the real issues of the world. I feel if an athlete wants to take the drug it should be up to the coach to have them test and decide the punishment not the goevernment. We have more crimes committed everyday that requires the government attend besides steroids.

The government needs to still take care of other issues going on even though we are currently going through a war. I am sure there is still plenty of help and money to face the issues of war. Yes, probably the majority of American citizens do feel the war is more important than steroids in baseball, but there may be a select few who love the game and would like it to continue to be fair. Just because there is a war going on, 100% of our time and money should not go to dealing with it. The government still needs to continue regulating the same issues it was before the war.

Simply because the government is addressing the issue of steroids in sports does not mean they are putting an emphasis on this issue over more important issues. I think if the government were to completely ignore steroids in sports that would cause an uproar in sports today. I do agree that there are more important things than steroids to worry about, but i don't think looking into who does steroids is taking away from more important issues.
