You can tell Bush makes money from oil

In this online video interview by Politico, they ask George Bush what his administration can do to help with the prices of oil and food. In his answer Bush says, “The best thing we can do is to increase supply and drill for oil and gas in environmentally friendly ways at home and build a new refinery.” He also later says in order to make a great change, “consumers have to change their habits or there has to be an increase in supply.” All Bush seems to care about is that his family business will continue when he isn't President any more. Why doesn't he bring up the fact that we can investigate other sources to replace oil that is more environmentally friendly? I'm just glad Bush only has a few months to go and there shouldn't be too much more he can ruin... right?

Well the president can't say I'm not doing my part in this crisis. As a consumer I'm changing my habits. My husband and I are switching over to bicycles as a primary source of transportation. At the same time I'm supporting a local business by not buying online. (Shouldn't I get two gold stars for that?) There are a lot of benefits, though, to switching over to the two-wheeled variety. You save some money, get into shape and help preserve the environment.

I was trying to find the Bush family business and it's link to oil, but I couldn't find anything.

Bush's biggest asset is his Texas ranch listed between $1 and $5 million, but the majority of the Bush family's assets are in real estate and a blind trust.

It was recently reported that he lost a lot over his years as President. George and Laura were worth $24 million, but it may have dropped to as low as $6.5 million.

After reading those quotes and watching the interview I don't know how you interpreted it into him using policy to help out his own family.

I agree with what he says, though. I think that if we drilled in Alaska or off the Gulf, we would see prices drop, and changing our own lifestyles would help out a lot too with supply. I also think we should open a new refinery since the last one built was in the 70's (I think), and all our refineries are working beyond capacity.

I guess I had the idea from others that the Bush family had business in oil. I never really researched it enough to find out. Those are good ways to help with the gas prices for short term but what about long term? Eventually oil will run out (maybe not in our lifetime) and it is also harming our environment the way we are using it. I would like to see some more progress towards finding an alternative. Yes, I would like to be able to buy a new hybrid car but I just can't afford it. Yes, I would like to be able to bike everywhere but it already takes me 30 minutes to drive to TCC, biking would take up way more of my time. They need to already invent the teleporter and everything would be solved!

Many of our country's elected
politicians have placed their
personal fortunes in blind trusts.
Wind energy and biomass energy are
two other sources to replace oil
energy that would be more environmentally friendly. Even
without a Bush family member in the
picture, responsibility for the
energy future is not going away.
