Weak? or Recession?

Gas prices are steadily on the rise, food prices are also on a rise, and people are losing there jobs left and right but according to The New York-based Conference Board their data reflects an economy that is weak but not one that is in a recession. Don't get me wrong I don't think we're in a recession but we're definitely not far from one. Is it just me or does it seem like economist are afraid of the word recession? They go as far as saying there has been a 0.1 percent increase in the last month to try to get people to think the economy is improving, in actuality that's a pretty low growth rate, I just wish everyone would face the truth and get ready for a recession.

I agree, we are headed in to a recession and a bad one at that. I work for a state agency and we have had to cut out spending budget more than half. There were talks of layoff's too but luckly the DHSMV is so big that all we had to do was cut the vacant positions. But what about the world? We can cut back on people can we? We can we do to fix the situation we have be placed into?

Our government and media are trying to cover this all up so we all can stay positive. I have a friend in Canada that brought our economy up in conversation and asked if I was freaking out because it looks like we are going to be in a pretty bad recession. I told him that the media isn't stressing the economy as much as they should. I never realized how bad we really are until my dad lost his job and how I paid attention to our loss in sales at my job. Hopefully with a new president, there will come new ideas and plans to try to save our economy or prepare for a recession.

I too feel our country is heading into a recession period. People are losing their jobs left and right, and prices of everyday necessities are rising to outrageous prices. Hopefully our next president, will have the vision of FDR and implement a bunch of programs to get our economy rolling again. Hopefully our recession won't turn into a depression though!

I don't think we need another FDR in the White House. Don't get me wrong, he was great for our country at that particular time, but I can't agree that that's the kind of president we need right now. Even though people make higher wages than before, we take less of our paychecks home. If we have a president that wants to make the government EVEN BIGGER, we're going to take EVEN LESS money home. I certainly don't want the government spending more of my hard earned money. Sorry, but I pay enough taxes already.

FDR was dealing with the Great Depression, not keeping the country from entering a recession.

I don't think we're in that kind of trouble, and I don't think FDR's vision is going to help us out. I don't think we're in too much trouble recession wise. Our economy didn't grow that much, but it did grow last quarter. I personally think we need to bring down the size of our government and let the economy work itself out.

This really something different. Gas prices are on the rise and so are some other things. $3.78 per gallon is CRAZY! You might as well say $4.00. I beleive we are headed for a recession.
