President is getting sued?!?!

Sen. Specter, a powerful Republican committee charimen, is leading the charge agianst President Bush's signing statements. He stated yesterday, Monday, July 24th, 2006, that have a bill ready at the end of the week ready to sue the President for acts that he considers unconstitutional. Bush has challenged about 750 statutes passed by Congress, according to numbers compiled by Specter’s committee. The ABA estimated Bush has issued signing statements on more than 800 statutes, more than all other presidents combined. But many of Bush’s signing statements serve notice that he believes parts of bills he is signing are unconstitutional or might violate national security.

Under the Constitution, though, the president does not have the power to declare all of or part of a law unconstitutional. If he thinks it is illegal, he has the power to veto it. Only the courts have the right to declare a law unconstitutional.
