Does the media cause violence?

http://www.columbia.edu/cu/21stC/issue-1.2/Media.htm
I personally feel that the media might be responsible from some violence that people display. However, I believe that media can not make someone commit a crime, such as murder. I believe it is a lot more than just the tv we watch, or the music we listen to that can justify why we act the way we act. The background of a person could explain the reasons why they might commit such a crime. What do you all think?

While your overall point does match up with the scientific evidence, Sean, be careful. You are using the anecdotal evidence fallacy when you say "me and my friends did it and we're okay." Unless you and your friends are a representative sample of all Americans and number at least 500, the chances are you and your friends aren't representative of the rest of the country.
