Should these parents be able to sue these friends?

I was watching the Nancy Grave Show and they were discussing a case of a 21 year old girl who has recently died because she drank way to much on her birthday. She and some friends went out for drinks for her birthday and she had 17 shots. Her friends took her home and left her on her side. She died that night and now her parents are trying to sue the friends because they blame them for the death of their daughter. They say the friends should have stopped her from drinking when they realized she was intoxicated. I believe it is true about the fact that they should have stopped her. But to try to sue them or charge them criminally is insane. The girl drank because she wanted to drink. A true friend would have stopped her from drinking when they realized she had had enough but it was her who decided to continue to drink. It was also said that the 21 year old has had two DUI's previously. Therefore, this was not her first time drinking even though this was only her 21 st birthday. She should have been able to control her drinking and she should have known her limit. Should the friends be punished for the daughter being careless?

This lawsuit will never make it. Like you said, she was old enough to know better and had obviously drank before. Her parents are just upset and looking for someone to blame.

Her parent need to check themsevles, where were they when she had two DUI's before her 21 birthday. I wonder if that themsevles are heavy drinkers.

I agree with you both. How can the parents try to blame other people? If they want to blame anyone it should be themselves or their daughter.

I think that the parents are grieving and that they do not want to accept the blame for their daughter death. In all honesty, the daughter should had been a little responsible. I am sorry that she has pass, but she is the only person that should be held accountable for her death.

Personally I think the mother and family just can't deal with the fact that their love one is gone, so they're trying to put the blame on someone else. The family need to accept the fact that she was a drunk and basically she killed herself!

You cannot make decisions for other people. The parents should not blame their daughter's friends for her death. Some bad judgment was obviously made, 17 shots is excessive but they did not force it down their daughter's throat. Blaming their daughter's death on other people will not help them cope with her death. They should come to terms with their daughter's excessive lifestyle and consider that it may have been the reason for her untimely death.
