Inappropriate Language

It is inappropriate on the class blog (or in class) to refer to entire classes of human beings as animals or refer to people with darker skin as monkeys. This is an academic setting and these types of ad hominem attacks are inappropriate, regardless of what some of the people in question have done. Furthermore, there is no group of people that exists that you can make 100% statements about and be accurate.

I have now deleted two posts for this type of language. This serves as a warning. A third post like this will affect someone's grade.

I think that racial slures are somthing that should be kept to your self. All races are guilty of using them. But fowl language in class rooms... lets see: I am 20 years old and feel that i am old enough to say words my not be appropriate for children to use. Sometimes i feel that teachers should choose their battles, I get in troulbe for using Mother F!@ker when talking to a friend before class, but a student walks into class late with there pants down to their knees with their underware hanging all out, earphones on and phones ringing, and nothing is said. Is this how it should be??

But it's not your classroom and a classroom is not a place where you have the right to say anything you want. Not only is campus speech not fully protected under the First Amendment, inappropriate language in the classroom, which is not a public place, infringes upon the rights of other students in that classroom to not be subjected to your language and insults. You can look away from someone wearing clothes you don't approve of. You can't close your ears.

And, to be honest, I've never seen a single student with their pants down to their knees and their underwear hanging out.

Phones ringing does violate school policies and people who let them ring in class without correcting the problem are punished.

Telling a teacher to "choose their battles" is disrespectful and beyond what is expected of a student who should be acting like an adult instead of being sarcastic and refusing to understand the rules just because he may not agree with them. There are legitimate ways to disagree with rules. This isn't one of them. Be very careful.
