Can America Really Get Better?
Every politican are saying what they know Americans want to hear. Let's take gas prices for example is it going to ever get any lower. And lets get to some deeper issues. When we are all older and ready to retire are we going to have money to retire with? Taxes are another issue. We work all these crazy long hours and when we get our pay checks taxes have been taken almost half of what you earned.

Yes, Conway
Deep thoughts for deep people. People should worry about taxes, social security, and rise of gas. We are going to need an awesome president in the future and that is why we need to start with education for children because Obama is not going to do it.
Keep hopes alive!
Jung Kim
conway, I do believe America can get better but we the people must continue to push for change and raise our expectations for this country. Jung Kim, how do you know that Mr. Obama want educate the children? Where is your proof on this matter or are you just committing a "logical fallacy?"
I have to say I'm with Lamar on this. Jung Kim, what makes you think that?? From the research I have done on Obama on his views on education this is what I keep finding.
"Barack Obama is committed to strengthening our public schools to maximize our country's greatest natural resource - the American people. Obama believes that we must equip poor and struggling districts, both rural and urban, with the support and resources they need to provide disadvantaged students with an opportunity to reach their full potential."
People make alot of promises but I think we all know that we don't really know WHO will do WHAT until they actually get into office.
Anyway Conway, I think you can give up hope on your paycheck. I don't think that will EVERY change. As far as retirement, you better start investing buddy. I wouldn't hold out hope for social security! Gas....let's not even talk about that. I think America CAN get better but I think it will get worse before it gets better. Especially depending on who the next president is. I'm probably just being pessimistic though.
Social Security will definitely be around when you retire. Under current projections, if nothing else changes, Social Security benefits will fall to only 75% of current benefit levels in 2041. That's if nothing changes. Everyone who analyzes politics from a professional standpoint expects something to change long before then. This "crisis" of a projected shortfall has come up several other times in the history of Social Security and Congress and the president have always come up with a solution. The problem is temporary anyway. The reason for the shortfall is the fact that the Baby Boomers are retiring and they are the largest group of citizens in American history, right up until their children's generation, which is even bigger. When the upcoming generation is fully participating in the workforce, then the shortfall will go away and a surplus will be generated again. Beyond that, politicians won't allow Social Security to go unpaid. The program isn't referred to "the third rail of American politics" for no reason. Politicians who cut it, or allow it to go unfunded, die (figuratively speaking, of course).
Considering some of the spelling and grammar on this blog, education definitly needs a boost. (Feel free to criticize MY grammar everyone. I'm not trying to be a jerk, I'm just making a point.)
Conway, where are you working that takes nearly half your income for taxes? I make $8 an hour, and only about 16% of that is retained for taxes, most of which I get refunded.
Honestly, I'd be willing to pay more if the money was used better. I don't mind paying for medical care or better education and public transportation, things like that. It's paying for bombs, abstinence-only programs, prisons, and other such things that pisses me off. I do strongly believe that that the rich should be taxed much more heavily than the poor - someone who makes millions a year has plenty to spare.
America has the potential to get better; however, this process of improvement will be gradual. Yes, candidates feed voters what they want to hear. This is inevitable. Americans can't expect immediate results. It's important to choose the next President based on their willingness to work with others (including opposite parties) to sustain our Nation's freedom.
I don't have a shash17 in my gradebook, so I can't give you credit for this comment unless you put your full name on it.
Matthew, did you know that just because you can spell it doesn't make you more eduacated. The same is true for the opposite, case as well: Just because you can't spell great, doesn't make you less eduacated. All authors have editors, why did you think that is. A professor once encouraged me to write because he thought that I had a grift for that art.At first I was scared and very discouraged, I can right out and told him that I'm not a good speller. He then told me that's why people have editors. I took his advice and wrote a short story for the local newspaper against some other writers and the newspaper selected my article. I will have some grammer and spelling erros but I will still have fun gretting my message out, hopefuly many people will enjoy it aslo. Free yourself see beyond the minor imperfection and catch the Mssegae.
I bet that you could read that last word because the brain is amazing it actually reads whole words and not the letters indivigualy. The only thing is the first and last letter must be in their correct spots. One lsat tset to porve it. Pretty cool hu!
who knows what the future really holds; we could only speculate on these things. It is my opinion that few things will change concerning social security benefitts.
We can look at history to get insight on the future.
You are right Lamar. People figure out that we shouldn't have world wars. Then those people die and the next generation comes along. It seems to me that we could learn from our mistakes.
It was once said a man that does not know his past, will never know his future. Thanks Josh J.
Well Matthew Amuso, this is about the issue itself not her grammer. And "I do strongly believe that that the rich should be taxed much more heavily than the poor" makes you look pretty bad yourself. Make sure your stuff is right before you say something about someone else. I agree with you Conway. I don't like them taking so much out of my checks neither. I work long hard hours and the more I make, the more they take and at the moment it doesn't benefit me any.
>I don't like them taking so much out of my checks neither. I work long hard hours and the more I make, the more they take and at the moment it doesn't benefit me any.
For Social Security they only take out a little bit from your paycheck. And the idea of looking at taxes individually makes little sense. It's true that Social Security may not affect you now, but it will some day. Besides, the amount of money you pay in taxes is a lot less than what you as an individual actually take away from the government. Just as a minor example, think about the road that you ride to work on. All of the tax money you will pay your entire life will not be enough to pay for just that road alone. You get a really, really good deal for your tax money.
That's very true about the roads although we complain about the roads in the U.S. We would all want a 4x4 Hummer if we lived and drove on roads in many other countries. Look at the roads in Mexico, they are horrible to say the least. I bet many of you have never driven by or through a pot hole 4 - 5 foot wide and 3 foot deep.
Well Matthew Amuso for your information I am well educated. So what you are trying to say is just because someone makes few mistakes they are uneducated. What does this has to do with how much money you make. WHO CARES? Please grow up!
You could be very educated and very poor, their was a man that called him self "King Love" he was a bum here in Tallahassee he had four or five college degrees. He was homeless and jobless. Yet inspite of all his accomplishments in college he dead homeless and alone. This could be anyone of our fate even though we are educated.
