Get pockets ready

Everywhere you turn you hear how the U.S. is looking for ways to stimulate the economy. Well, I hope you all payed your taxes. News from Cnn last week states that The Treasury Department is taking part of the issue into their hands. U.S. tax payers will recieve rebate checks for $600 per person and $1200 per couple. Capitol Hill believes that the checks will be cashed and put right back into the system. I dont know about you but they can stimulate my pockets all they want. "Show me the money".

I know I'm suppose to be happy about all this, but for some reason I just feel uneasy about it. Isn't out economy in a huge trillion + debt to itself? Where is the government getting this kind of money? Hopefully someone can answer with full feedback and resources.

REBATE CHECK GALORE! I just do not understand though. Is giving more money out really going to help to economy? I think there is just something fishy about all of this.

Just think of it like the Pell Grant. They give money to needy students and the real tax payers will pay the bill. The hard working lower class as well as the middle class.

Think of it as a Pell Grant huh? Me being someone who doesn't get any sort of financial aid, I'd rather they just give me the pell grant! And as far as that checking coming..I'll believe it when I see it!

Kristen, like you I don't recieve any money from the government, I do however realize that many people do or have to recieve this money to achieve their dreams. From the age of 18 years old I have payed my own way, I was able to do this by the means of going into the military right after high school and now by being a working tax payer for some 22 years. I personally wouldn't mind a little Pell Grant money. I your parents claim you on their taxes then they will get the cash and not you.

Really, I don't think the tax payers should front the bill for any class of people no matter what. Everybody has their own problems, be it financial or otherwise...why should anybody pick up the tab? I have to pay my way through school out of pocket and I don't complain...I expect everyone else who is in similar circumstance to do the same.

Everyone pays taxes, though, so it isn't necessarily "fronting" the bill. While some don't pay property or income taxes, everyone pays payroll taxes (FICA, Social Security), sales taxes, gas taxes, cigarette taxes (if you smoke) and, of course, corporate taxes are passed on to consumers, so those who buy products pay those taxes as well.

>why should anybody pick up the tab?

Because it lessens other social costs later, such as crime, disease, emergency medicine, etc.

>I have to pay my way through school out of pocket and I don't complain.

You actually pay no more than 20% of what it costs for you to go to school. Taxpayers pay for the rest.

Jd, hopefully with this new hike in school fee's, you will still feel as good as you do know. And Kristen, they do let some fat people into the service they just put them on a special program to lose weight, it also depends on serval factors such as: actual body mass, test score, fitness, skill, field of interest and branch of service.

instead of spending the money most people are going to use the funds for bills that they can't pay with credit cards any more. the issued checks would benifit america be we well see how long for me i'm going to save mine.
