Political Spectacle

As always one political party is try to sway public opinion to further there ideology without concern to the issue. The Congressional Republican party made a personal attack on the speaker of house Nancy Pelosi concerning her complicity in the use of advance integration techniques by the CIA. This personal assault on Nancy Pelosi is a subtle attack on the Democratic party and on the current policies being instituted. In my personal opinion the current and fundamental issue is the President Obama decision to close the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The Republican party has charged the Democratic executive branch with endangering the lives of Americans while trying to promote there agenda. The decisions of the former administration where it is concerned with the prison and interrogation technique has lowered the approval of the party. This a blatant attempt by the Republican party to shift or diffuse the blame in a public spectacle. The simple fact is the Guantanamo Bay prison became highlighted as a liability and President Obama was fulfilling his campaign promise of greater transparency in government decisions.

I agree. Nancy Pelosy is not the issue. Attorney General Eric Holder is doing a poor job trying to close GetMo though. I respect President Obama's goals that he campagined on and I believe he is holding true to many of them. The problem is that our country is a country of instant gratification. No one is patient anymore. I am personally against shutting down GetMo and think it should stay open to hold these terror suspects. Closing it down is more sybolic than it is a true push towards Obama's overall goal. Everyone wants things to "change" and no one (not even republicans, which I am) have a response on how to inplement such a change!

I agree with your statement that the prison in Guantoanamo bay, Cuba should remain open. As along as terrrist groups believe that there actions will achieve there desired goals the threat will remain constant. What I stated was that because of the mismanagement of the issues surrounding the prision, such as the War on Terrorism, made Getmo a political liability. What I think overall as a plan of action is to focus on making our institutions and infastucture more resilent towards a terrorist act and then be able to respond in kind. Naturally the focal piont for such a mandate is The Department of Homeland Security ran by Janet Napolina-I meantion her name because I believe strong leadership is the key to success. Except even after all the promises made, there still is not a effective system for sharing intelligence to other agencies and certian departments such as FAA is not under the Homeland Security umbrella and our borders still remain porous. It is hard to combat an enemy who blends in society and can strike at any moment, but we should at least have first responders (firefighter with radios)with the right equipment to do there jobs.

I respect President Obama for being true to his words, and I believe that the prison in Guantanamo Bay should be closed. It is a liability and costly. We have hundreds of prisons in America, some of which are maximum security (which incarcerates killers) that have committed harsh crimes just the same as these terrorist. The Republican and Democratic parties need to focus on the real issues at hand and stop with the personal attacks. It is not doing either side any justice.

I agree also with President Obama's decision to close down the prison. I don't think this decision envolves his paticular party. I think it is easy to see if something is a liabilty and needs so be improved or removed. I think President Obama just wants to do what he believes is right for the country.
