Accident or Murder

Fox News aired a story about a man who “accidently” killed a bald eagle. He was a hunter and his turkeys started to go missing, he figured that it must have been the coyotes. He left out hamburger meat laced with pesticides and it worked, it killed 7 coyotes. The problem came when the bald eagles ate the carcasses of the coyotes. The eagles are protected by law and it is illegal to kill them. The hunter was fined $10,000 and 2 years of probation. President George Bush gave this man a pardon. He was 1 of 14 people pardoned. Do you think this man should have received a harsher sentence or was his pardon well over due?

The man responsible for the deaths of 7 coyotes and bald eagles should not have been pardoned for his acts of animal cruelty. Not only did he kill bald eagles, an animal protected by the law but, he also killed animals in a very inhumane manner. When someone commits a crime such as this, pardoning them does not set the right example for others to see. President Bush is giving the impression that animal rights are not of importance. Although we do have the right to bear arms as member of the country and to hunt, there should be a penaltly for killing in a inhumane manner and the murdering of an animal that is illegal to kill.

I don't think he meant to kill the bald eagle, but I do think there could have been a much more humane way to rid of the coyotes. I am not defending his actions, but I don't think he had the resources to know any better. Like he may have been a little slow...

I'm not so sure about this because its crazy to hear that he killed the coyotes over his turkeys, thier apart of their food chain.Keep them in a pin if you dont want them ate.Yes he killed them very inhumane, and i feel that the murder of the eagle was not on purpose,he was trying to protect his livestock.I GUess hiss pardon was over do because this goes into animal rights.

This man did not intend to kill the bald eagle, although his actions directly affected the outcome. I think the decision of pardon would have to be considered if the man had any other incidents of cruelty or misconduct against endangered species. I do not think that this pardon was well over due, and each case would have to be investigated individually. We do need to educate about the transfer of posions.
