Should New Orleans be rebuilt?
I read some where that it talks about should New Orleans be rebuilt? Yes, because New Orleans is too poor they need help but should we rebuild New Orleans, 10 feet below sea level, just so it can be wiped out again? Yes just because it was wiped out it does not mean it would happy again we as a people need to save and provide some basic help to the victims and New Orleans. Let me know what you guys think about it.

Every place in America is under threat of some natural disaster, that is no reason for us not to build there, by that logic, we shouldn't build anywhere. The rebuilding of a town is not a drag on the economy at all, in fact, it is a boom to the economy. Large amounts of government spending never hurts the economy (theoretically it could, but it hasn't in American history). Besides, the residents of New Orleans (and the other places that were harmed by Katrina and other storms) are all taxpayers and they should have a say in where there money goes. They pay taxes in order to receive benefits from the government and one of those benefits should be the rebuilding of their homes and businesses if they choose. And there is no logic to the assumption that it will happen again. After Andrew devastated South Florida, some people suggested that should be rebuilt. It was and it was built better and it has withstood many, many more hurricanes. We spend government money on many stupid and useless things that do nothing to help anyone, why shouldn't we spend it on something that only helps people and hurts no one?
There are plenty of people who want to go back home to New Orleans and the surrounding areas. It's going to be rebuilt and it will once again become a popular place to live and visit. They're taking a risk but that's home to them and they should be able to do what they want to do.
Now that is really a good example of the Does Not Follow fallacy. Those people didn't die because the city existed. At that point, you might as well say if they had never been born, they wouldn't have died in the storm. The tragedy in New Orleans was 100% preventable. If people learn lessons from the tragedy, then future similar tragedies can be prevented, too.
