The Grey Area in Politics

I was sitting in class today and I realized something about fallacies. Every political debate is full of almost 50 percent of them! I am a very black and white person and I am realizing that politics are not for me. That fact of the matter is that swaying either way on certain issues is the only way to gain votes. We are becomming a more moderate society and that is why the GOP is losing so many votes because we tend to practice more conservative views. If you look at the GOP house minority leader John Boehner, all of his votes swing towards very conservative views on many social issues like gay marriage, abortion and the place of God in our government. The GOP would love to see things return back to when "One Nation Under God" meant something but the sad fact is that it will most likely will not. What does the grey area in politics mean to you? What moves does the GOP need to make to step back up to the plate in 2010?

The grey area is needed. Its my view that anyone fully liberal or conservative is wrong most of the time. To not be moved by a moral compass, but to instead be moved by party puts you in a position to lose. One nation under God, thats what the U.S. is founded on, and the ability to choose based on merit and not simply party affiliation is what makes america great. Lets keep the grey area, maybe we can get more done in congress.

Very true. I was merely stating my personal opinion and not a fact. The reason the GOP lost the presidency was because of this very fact. I totally agree with your comment.

The phrase "One Nation Under God" is actually a modern invention. The founders chose the motto "E Pluribus Unum" (out of many, one). The Pledge of Allegience wasn't even written until 1892 and, as written, it didn't contain those words, which were added to it in the mid-1950s, which was also when "In God We Trust" was added to the currency and was named the official motto. These things were all done to contrast us with the Communists who rejected organized religion.
