How can we as citizens determine what is best for our great nation? We are but common people. Many of us do not hold great status, or possess great wealth. And those of us that do only hold so much influence in the grand scheme of things. How can we really make our voices heard? How can we make "every vote count"? Before we can even dream about changing the future, first we must change ourselves. Yes, the people must alter the nature of themselves before implementing any new effective policies for the future. We must be educated, and be willing to educate others. We must use our privilege to vote, and encourage others as well. As of now, our leaders' eyes are clouded by their own ideologies. "Ideologies have become intellectual straight jackets...an excuse not to think" says writer Leonard Pitts of the Miami Tribune. Politicians and peasants have both become too focused on being right. It seems that doing what is right for this country is no longer our first concern. If the people want a better future, the power achieve such is in their own hands.

I agree, in order to change something large in issue, we must change something small. The way that we think. We don't have any idea what is good for the world, how could we? When we say do this or that for the country, we often talk in terms of what would make us and the neighborhood we live in better. We often forget that there are millions of neighborhoods in the country and not just ours. In order to change the world or offer what's best, let's change us.

I believe that politicians are not exactly blind because their own ideology, but they are limited. America has only two ideologies that have a chance in standing strong. Many other countries have divided opinions and several political groups that share different ideologies. I believe that politicians need to look beyond their own ideologies and consider the alternatives to bring public.
In order to make a change you need money. To get the money you need to be good at organizing and getting people out there and being active. People love to talk, love to complain, but hate to actually do something. People are lazy, intellectually in that they believe what they hear with not further research, lazy in that as long as it doesn't make life unbearable they won't move. This fact people are lazy can be seen in part, though not directly linked to, the fact that if you are attacked in the street, mugged or raped, don't yell help "I'm getting _______," instead yell "Fire!" You will be more likely to get assistance from the fire which can spread than the mugging or assault which is just targeted to you.
