Cnn quoted President Bush earlier this week as believing that the Olympics are a sporting event and have nothing to do with politics when being asked about attending China's opening ceramony. Many people are calling for Bush to skip the opening ceramony to show China that the U.S. is angry over the violent response to the tibetin monks demonstrations. Bush and his administration believes that skipping the opening ceramony would only be a red herring and that this whole situation needs to be dealt with by quiet diplomacy.

i read on yahoo news that john McCain has already claimed that he will not attend if China doesn't do something about the violent actions against the Tibetan monks. Civil disobedience always seemed like a good way to get a point across. Womens rights and desegregation only happened after years of protest. I agree however that the Olympics have nothing to do with politics. Besides George Bush going or not going to the Olympics isn't going to be the end of the world. Its not like he is competing, since when do people pay attention to the audience.
