A boy brings a grenade to show and tell, the explosive charge and detonator have been removed years ago. They police and bomb squad are called and the grenade turned over to the bomb squad for disposal. How paranoid can we be? A grenade with out the explosive charge and detonator is nothing more than a steel ball. Where such measures so necessary?

Its a grenade!Would it be okay if you brought a gun with no trigger to school? No!! Leave the weapons at home.
Yeah it's kind of the principle of the matter. Where in the world did a third grader find a grenade? I blame the parents.

I do not think anyone should bring any kind of weapon to school. Even if there is no detonator it still isn't a good idea. I do not think the boy should get in any kind of trouble he was young adn didn't know.

I Think all weapons need to stay out of the schools the use of weapons have ruined our society. they use of all weapons should only be used at home and local state government not in schools even if the charge was gone it's still a bomb and the approiate action was taking.
i could understand everyones concern. Firstly the ones that reported it probably didnt know that it had not detonator or explosive charge. However, depending on the age of the student, i dont see a problem with it if the subject they were learning was WW1-2, as long as the student informed the teacher prior to bringing it in. But none of these circumstances were met so leave it at home is my final say.
You can buy defused grenades from any army surplus store for three to five dollars. Someone should have been able to look at the bottom of the grenade where the charge is stored and tell that it has been gutted. The actions were a little extreme and I don't believe the kid should be punished to harshly because I'm sure he didn't mean for cause such an up roar by bringing it in to school.
Once again we have another situation where other peoples lives are being taken for granted. What if it was a real working grenade then what would people have said then? I think the parents should be held responsible for this. I also think that teachers should require students to get approval for things they bring to school other wise they should get in trouble for it.
