Iraq's political boycotts

If democracy is going to work in Iraq I wholeheartedly agree with the Minority Sunnis to boycott the assembly of al-Malawi, a Shi'ite, Cabinet. However, I understand that as America looks in on this travesty of infrastructure rebuilding, there are feelings of frustration. What the American public needs to understand is that building a workable democracy among a country rife with religious controversy will take years and years. That being said I personally do not think we should be anywhere near this conflict although the fact that the Iraqi people are attempting to make democracy work is impressive. There is no historical precedent for democracy in middle-eastern countries aside from the heavily U.S. backed Israel. Ultimately, I think the project is doomed because of extremists.
The continuing attacks on cities that have been declared successfully secured shows that we would have to impose an extreme form of militarized government to secure anything in Iraq for a length of time. That would never happen because we would be more than just occupiers of a country and the international community as well as the U.S. public would not allow it.
