Apparently, the exchange of gifts between the United States' president and Great Britain's prime minister is a big deal. Historically, the gifts exchanged have been symbolic of our past, present and future friendship. Therefore, the gifts have been thoughtful and representative of something significant, rare and meaningful both to the U.S. and Great Britain. It is my understanding that Obama must not have gotten the memo regarding the significance of this gift exchange that was to take place during his most recent visit with Great Britain's Prime Minister Brown. Brown gave Obama a first edition of a biography or autobiography of Churchill (I think)and a rare token or coin of some kind that holds all kind of significance and symbolism. Obama gave Brown 25 American DVD's. Yes, movies! Movies that you and I could go to Walmart or Blockbuster and get! Was this an act representative of his inexperience or unawareness or was he trying to send another message? I'm not sure. I just know it concerns me. What do you think?

Well maybe im seeing only one side to this situation because I am a raging Obama supporter, but I believe this one was on purpose. Barack Obama, being a politician is constantly being schooled on proper, formal, and previously done EVERYTHING. He and his wife are under constant watch for any error, but rightfully so. I believe he intended to do this to show more than just a humorous side to him- but to show he is being out of the ordinary- and he is changing America. We are in the twenty first century and we need a new, fresh, young president who will change our ways overall. This is reflected in his gift and his presidency! We will never know whether it was completely on purpose or an accident but from my barack obama loving point of view- he did it to prove more than just that he has a good humor!

Barack Obama has so far shocked this nation with his normality. It does not surprise me that he gave DVD's as a gift. Americans can't even fathom the idea of having a president whose considered a "real person", Obama has made it clear that hes just like the rest of us, he just happens to have a strong passion when it comes to decison making! I think it was completely okay for him to give a gift like he did...welcome to the 21st century!
