I have heard almost every reason why people didn’t vote for President Obama. The one issue that comes up more than anything is abortion. I been told over-and-over again that they agree with almost everything he stands for but abortion. Then they go to the polls and make their vote on that one issue. Will someone please explain to me why that one issue is worth throwing every other issue out window?

People are very sensitive to this issue becuase it is a topic of great debate. This issue is very serious for some people, becuase they believe that getting an abortion is like killing a baby. however on the other side of the spectrum people go to great lengths to say that a baby is not born until he is in a mothers hands. This issue is one that people are true to and they feel like it is their duty to stand by it when election day comes around.
I am completely nuetral on this topic but definately emphasize with peoples opinions on the topic.
Basically, people generally vote for the candidate because of a single issue that they deem important. However society needs to show some intelligence and consider not only one issue, but how the candidate will affect the present and future of the United States. This past election for example became very clearly about race which is really a shame because American society has strived so hard for racial equality and when the chance arose to show that we are all equal, the underlying racial motivations became present showing that we are no different than we were 50 years ago. These “single issue voters” influence elections so heavily, and if we were all more informed about the policies and ideas of our candidates we may be able to have some real change in Washington.

That one issue is not worth throwing every other issue out the window. Even though the issue is an important one, we must still hold on to the stronger political issues that are at hand. We all know that President Obama is a very caring and understanding person, and I believe that later on, we can talk about abortions.

While abortion is a huge topic that is close and dear to the hearts of many, I don't think that people cast their vote on simply this one issue. I would like to think that most intelligent people consider "the whole package" of the candidate when voting. Personally, I've noticed that when a candidate is pro-choice, they tend to be (not every candidate in every situation) more liberal on other issues as well, which is going to sway votes in one direction or the other. But again, I don't feel that most votes are cast based on this one issue alone.

I think that this issue is a top issue in the polls because of how personal and life changing having an abortion can be. You have to think of all the pscycological effects that also come along with abortions. I also think its a big issue because of how many people unplanned pregnancys have affected. I think we should give women a choice to do so or not, atleast they will be able to choose.

"As long as there have been women in the world who didn't want babies, there have been methods for abortion"-Miss Atkinson, my highschool government teacher.
That aside, citizens who live in this great nation should take advantage of the voting process, and not abuse it. It is a privelege to live in such a democratic society. The people have the power. Instead of focusing on one issue like abortion or gay marriage, voters need to educate themselves and each other about all the important issues. Imagine if we voted someone like Hitler or Stalin into power solely based on whether or not they supported abortion. While that may be the worse possible outcome of abusing the right to vote, it is possible.
One issue can make or break a presidential candidate in somes eyes. It is our rights as Americans to vote any which way we please. I could vote for someone because I like their name, simply because that is my right. Stupid? Yes. But it is going to happen. All you can do is hope that important elections aren't filled with that many absent minded people.
