Democrats' time to shine

Is it me or is the republican party more like a disfunctional family? In addition, Huckabee is losing a substantial amount of votes which to me means that John McCain is the only republican left in the presidential race. Due to the recent media coverage concerning John McCain, I have been convinced that he shouldn't be our future president because just like Bush, i do question his ability to keep the "people" loyal to him.

Merilis, I don't trust McCain, he is like a reed blown back and forth by the wind. He does come accross like he would just follow in G.W. Bush foot steps.

Aren't you a little nervous about the idea of a freshman senator taking control of the most powerful military and economy in the world? How can someone who has never even served in the military propose to be commander and chief with a straight face? I actually like Obama, think that after another decade or so of public service he would probably make an excellent president...a little scared at the prospect of his taking the helm right now. This is no time for a rookie to be in charge. The fact that so many people are so disgusted with the status quo as to make Obama a viable candidate may be the worst consequence of George W's administration...something that Democrats and Republicans alike may have cause to regret for generations to come.

gshaw, to date we have had many people in office who never served in the military, for that matter G.W. Bush, never realy served. Secondly, how often have you seen a "rookie" play the most important role in many victories. A successful person surround themsevles with many compitent adivsors. Most importantly the President does not have complete controll of anything.

I think a young person should learn to balance their checkbook before they try to major corporation. I think that Obama should get some experience before he attempts to run the most powerful country in the world..a country at war no less. Maybe if he could manage to beat Sid Meirs Civilization game playing at an intermediate level I would feel a little better :-) Rookies are often MVP's...I'm not convinced that Obama is MVP material...are you?

By the way...please say you're not supporting Obama because you think he's "dreamy"

Senators have more foreign policy experience by doing their job than governors do. Four of the last five presidents were governors before becoming president and had less foreign policy experience than Obama.

>How can someone who has never even served in the military propose to be commander and chief with a straight face?

This is actually close to the way it was intended. After viewing the repeated military coups in Europe over the years, the framers designed the presidency to be the civilian control over the military. This is why one can't be active military at the time they assume office.

>The fact that so many people are so disgusted with the status quo as to make Obama a viable candidate may be the worst consequence of George W's administration... something that Democrats and Republicans alike may have cause to regret for generations to come.

This is a slippery slope argument. I doubt you can back up "generations to come" with any kind of viable evidence or argument.

Gshaw, the because you might think of Obama as "dreamy" has nothing to do with what I feel about him. In fact I have a genuine distrust for any politican, They are like insurance salesmen: You really don't get to find out if they are any good until you need them. If we find out that Obama was not the right choice we will vote on another one I four years. If he turn outs to be great then we will keep him for eight and after that we will try to elect his wife, brother, coucin, mom and dad: Or atleast that seems to be thew going trend.

...I'm sure you are both correct, and my concerns over Obama's credentials have no rational foundation. Nevertheless, you wouldn't put a rookie quarterback in play for the first time during a critical moment of the game regardless of whether or not you thought he had the look of a MVP. I find no comfort in the fact that we can always take him out in four years...a lot can happen in four years. Slippery slope I suppose, to speculate that it could taken far more than four decades to recover from four years of fairy tale inspired government leadership...still, I have a bad feeling about what is beginning to look like a probability with Obama...even though he probably qualifies as "dreamy"...:-)

gShaw as a coach myself I would have no problem with putting a rookie into the game on a critical play, If he was the best we have. I'm not convinced that their is any better than Obama, at this time.

My point exactly...we know very little about Obama other than he is a very eloquent speaker. I tend to be suspicious of those who seem to say all the right things at the right time. Overheard someone saying they would probably vote for Obama because he seemed so personable and was so attractive. Immediately thought of Ted Bundy, another good looking and personable fellow with a law degree. Overheard someone at the Y the other day saying they thought George W was the anti-christ. My understanding of said creature was that it would be very attractive and charming...come out of nowhere to assume power at a time of crises. George W certainly hasn't come out of nowhere...(some of the oldest money in the country)... not particularly charming, wouldnt said that he is anywhere near "dreamy". Didn't Obama convert from Islam to Christianity shortly before beginning his political career? Smart fellow it would seem...but very unusual. Muslims dont lose many players...at least not due to conversion. Seems to be enjoying a meteoric rise to power...still a little early in the game to put much faith in polls that concern the general election.

gshaw, just what do you realy know about any of the canidates? Now being able to speak elouqently is something negative, give me a break. It is great to have people who can articulate for well, I tend not to go for the E-BUNICS or the hilbilly thing.

This country has been ran by Republicans for years. It's just a matter of time till they come back up. The republicans do not have a strong representative, so their last resort is Mccain. In the up coming years (next two elections), I believe that the Republicans will get back into office.
